York United FC select Luca Accettola and Matthew Fischer in 2025 CPL-U SPORTS Draft
Both local products and very familiar with York Lions Stadium, the players now have the chance to earn a roster spot for next season.
ACC NATURALLY
York United FC has selected Luca Accettola and Matthew Fischer in the 2025 CPL - U SPORTS Draft, presented by Degree.
With the fifth pick of the First Round, The Nine Stripes selected Accettola, from Woodbridge, Ont, who featured
in all 16 of York Lions games last season in his debut campaign and scored seven times in total, adding a further five assists.
His midfield performances ensured he was named OUA West Rookie of the Year.
The 20-year-old started out with Vaughan Soccer Club before joining the Toronto FC Academy in 2015. He stayed with
the organization through various underage teams, later making 12 appearances for TFC II in MLS NEXT Pro between 2022-2024,
scoring once. Accettola also represented Canada at the 2019 Concacaf Boys' Under-15 Championship in Florida, picking
up two assists in four games.
With the ability to play as a 10 or drop deeper in midfield, he possesses some excellent vision and can pick a pass.
His general awareness and positioning contributes enormously to his ability to find himself in dangerous positions,
while his composure in front of goal was certainly on show in 2024.
THE FISCHER KING
With the fifth pick of the Second Round, The Nine Stripes selected 19-year-old Matthew Fisher, a native of Toronto, Ont,
and another star of the 2024 York Lions team.
An adaptable midfielder, Fisher can play centrally or in a wider zone and is known for his impact in and out of possession.
A selfless player, he's technically proficient and has excellent positioning skills.
He also knows where the net is, having scored three times in the 2024 campaign.
Previously, Fisher played at the NCAA level having attended Canisius University in Buffalo, NY.
Both Accettola and Fisher now have the chance to be invited to preseason camp and compete for a roster spot for
the upcoming season.
