Max Ferrari extends stay with The Nine Stripes

After a special year in which he made his 100th appearance for the club, the 24-year-old will feature in his sixth season.

MAX POWER

York United FC is thrilled to announce the signing of Max Ferrari to a one-year guaranteed contract, with a club option for an additional twelve months.

The deal ensures the 24-year-old continues as the longest-serving player in club history and sees Ferrari continue for a sixth season with The Nine Stripes.

It proved a particularly memorable 2024 for the Newmarket, Ont native, owing to the right-sided defender celebrating his 100th appearance for York United in a league clash with Cavalry FC back in mid-August. Overall, Ferrari has represented the team 109 times in all competitions, scoring three times and adding eight assists.

"This is my club and it's always an honour and privilege to wear the shirt," Ferrari says.

"This community means a lot to me and representing York United is something special. We're extremely motivated to deliver for our fans. They were with us every step of the way in 2024 and helped us achieve a lot. But, there's more to come. We've got certain objectives and we believe in the potential of this club."

Since signing for York United ahead of the shortened 2020 season, Ferrari has developed into a marquee player for the side. After arriving from League1 Ontario side Aurora FC, he hit the ground running in his debut campaign by featuring in all seven of the team's fixtures at The Island Games in Prince Edward Island, even conjuring an assist after coming off the bench in his first ever appearance.

His sophomore season saw him reach new heights and after scoring three times in all competitions and adding a further four assists to help The Nine Stripes reach the playoffs, Ferrari finished 2021 as a nominee for Best Canadian Under-21 Player at the end-of-year CPL Awards.

Despite injuries severely hampering his third campaign with the club, he returned to fitness and form in 2023 as the team once again made it to the postseason. In 2024, Ferrari had the most appearances of any outfield player and racked up his most-ever minutes in a league season (2253) as the club set numerous records and enjoyed a special year, culminating in an impressive playoff run.

"Max is a hometown hero and is loved here," says Ricardo Pasquel, President of York United FC.

"We're extremely happy to have him back with us and he is a wonderful ambassador for this club. He is a warrior and brings a consistency to everything he does. In many ways, he embodies everything that's great about the Canadian Premier League. His trajectory has seen him play at League1 level and then sign for the pro club he used to cheer on from the stands. Since arriving, he's blossomed into a real leader and is full of spirit, determination and talent. He is the perfect example of what a professional athlete should be and is everything we look for in a player."
