THE WRIGHT STUFF

Following a magnificent campaign, York United FC striker Brian Wright has been announced as a finalist for the Canadian Premier League's Players' Player of the Year award, reflecting his best-ever season and crucial contribution to The Nine Stripes' record-breaking 2024.

Not only did the 29-year-old deliver a career-high nine league goals but Wright also added a further career-high six assists, setting a new club record for goal contributions (15). Earlier in the season, he set a league record of seven goals and four assists in the first 11 fixtures.

Wright was included in the CPL's Team of the Week on three separate occasions, was awarded the Gatorade Performance of the Match three times and also was crowned the CPL's Player of the Week.

"I'm grateful to be a finalist for this award," Wright says.

"I'd like to thank my teammates for a fantastic season and my peers across the league for voting for me."

Wright joins goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini and defender Noah Abatneh as a 2024 CPL Awards nominee. The ceremony will be broadcast live on dedicated soccer channel OneSoccer and streamed on CBC Gem and cbcsports.ca beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
