May 18, 2024...CPL Cavalry FC vs York United FC Match Preview (from York United FC)
MATCH PREVIEW: York United are in Spruce Meadows to face Cavalry FC tonight as they chase their first points on the road for the 2024 Canadian Premier League season. The boys are buzzing following that comprehensive 3-1 win over Valour FC last on home soil. But unlike last term, The Nine Stripes have been unimpressive on the road so far and are looking to reverse a three-match away losing streak. Cavalry FC are unbeaten [1-3-0] in the campaign and at ATCO Field they have one win and one draw. Head Coach Martin Nash admitted his troops must be at their best and replicate last week’s performance to avoid defeat. ''It's always difficult games. They're an extremely well-drilled team. They've got a lot of quality. They can kind of do it all-they can possess the ball, they can play in transition, they defend. It is always going to be a tough test and we have to go be at our best, '' He added: ''I think the big thing for us is we're still working on ourselves a lot. So, we're looking at them a little bit but we know them quite well. We know we're gonna have to be able to compete because 50-50 balls are a strength of theirs. ''They battle and fight for every inch of the pitch and we've got to be prepared to do the same. They have a lot of quality, and they've not been scoring goals at a rapid rate but they're always dangerous. They defend well, they get the lead and it’s tough to come back on. ''We know it's gonna be a tough game. We're gonna have to go and work extremely hard and when we get our chances, we have to take them.'' Cavalry FC’s danger man remains Tobias Warschewski and leads their scorers’ chart with two goals. York United are boosted by Dennis Salanovic earning his first start in the league this season but Mo Babouli’s back injury is a setback, especially with the talisman having scored his first of the season last week, earning a spot in the Team of the Week and also being named the CPL’s Player of the Week too.
