May 4, 2024...Preview: Nash Looks For Strong Attitude and Killer Instinct For Pacific Away Assignment (from York United FC)
PREVIEW: NASH LOOKS FOR STRONG ATTITUDE AND KILLER INSTINCT FOR PACIFIC AWAY ASSIGNMENT The Nine Stripes will look to bounce back from midweek cup disappointment at Starlight Stadium tonight. THE DETAILS Since 2022, York United have failed to secure a win against Pacific FC in the Canadian Premier League. So, tonight presents another opportunity for the lads from North York to potentially overturn the trend and secure the points. Last term, York lost both regular season games played at Starlight Stadium, and then endured playoff heartbreak at the same venue as a superb away performance was derailed by a 91st-minute winner from Pacific's Adonijah Reid. Despite the setback in midweek where they lost 3-1 at Forge FC in the Canadian Championship, Martin Nash is backing his Nine Stripes to bounce back strongly. He believes they can recapture the verve that made them a strong side on the road last season. "I think it's just about our attitude and mentality," Nash said in his pre-game press conference. "For whatever reason, last year on the road...it just brought us together. We're gonna try to do the same things and I thought we started the season well at [Atletico] Ottawa, we just didn't pick up three points. We feel you should have come out of there with at least a draw but we didn't punish them. That's the thing we need to do better at: punishing teams when we get our chances." Pacific have 2-0-1 record in the league and on Wednesday night had to rally to level 1-1 at the death against TSS Rovers before eliminating the League1 BC side on penalties in the Canadian Championship. The Tridents manage to retain the majority of their star men on their roster with the likes of Ayman Sellouf, Josh Heard and Sean Young making them look a solid side. "I think even for the last few years, they're very comfortable without the ball. They're good in possession but they're comfortable without the ball. They don't mind defending in long spells and they do a good job on the counter as well, " Nash added. "They're a difficult team to play against. They're always organized so we know it's gonna be a tough game. We're gonna have to bring the attitude we had for the last couple games. Looking back at the game on Wednesday, I thought the attitude was good." Ridwan Ibrahim Asante © 2024 YORK UNITED FCback to 2024 York United FC menu
