REVEALED! NINE STRIPES TO FACE BITTER LOCAL RIVALS FORGE FC IN 2024 CPL HOME OPENER
York United FC will host the reigning champions at York Lions Stadium on Sunday, April 21.

York United FC's bitter local rivalry will continue early in the 2024 Canadian Premier League campaign, with The Nine Stripes' home opener seeing them pitted against reigning champions Forge FC.

The teams will do battle on Sunday, April 21 at York Lions Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4pm.

Having met for the very first time on the CPL's historic opening day back in 2019, the intensity has only grown across the subsequent five years.

Martin Nash has faced Bobby Smyrniotis eight times across two seasons and tasted victory on three occasions, with one draw between the sides. In total, there has been 21 fixtures between the clubs and - in true derby style - one goal has separated them in eight of those games.

There's been a litany of spectacular goals, some superb saves, incredible individual displays and a ferocity that only comes when neighbouring teams compete for bragging rights. What's been your favourite moment?

Brem Soumaoro's exquisite, last-gasp winner at Tim Hortons Field last term? Or maybe it was mercurial Mo Babouli waving his baton and conducting his orchestra in the brilliant 3-1 win in 2022? How about Sebastian Gutierrez and his dazzling footwork that bamboozled Triston Henry at York Lions Stadium earlier that year? Going back even further, it's possibly Michael Petrasso's nonchalant lob or Alvaro Rivero's expert game-winning, side-foot finish to the far corner?
