York United re-sign goalkeeper Eleias Himaras

York United FC confirmed on Tuesday the re-signing of goalkeeper Eleias Himaras on a one-year deal.
The 21-year-old, a native of London, Ont., returns for his third season with the Nine Stripes, having seen his 2023 campaign
overshadowed by injury.
A back complaint ensured he missed the first three league games and upon returning to the fold, he had to wait patiently
for his chance as Niko Giantsopoulos avoided both injury and suspension.
Himaras made his first start of the season in the 2-2 home draw with Halifax Wanderers on June 22 before meniscus surgery
ruled him out for two months. To make it all the more frustrating for Himaras, he would have been guaranteed plenty of game
time because Giantsopoulos finally did miss some action, while the club were also chasing much-needed under-21 minutes.
After regaining full fitness, Himaras started the 1-0 away defeat to Cavalry FC in late September and was on the bench
for the team’s three remaining fixtures, including the playoff clash with Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium.
In total, he’s made 12 appearances for the Nine Stripes.
Formerly with League1 Ontario outfit Electric City FC, Himaras joined the Toronto FC Academy in 2018 and was named
in Canada’s squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil the following year, starting the team’s final group game against
New Zealand. Previously, he spent time with TFC II.
