Result and details of the Saturday August 17, 2024 League1 Ontario Men's Premier Division game betweenFinal Score:......ProStars FC......6.......Hamilton United.......2........
Attendance climbed to about 40 by halftime. I left home during heavy rain but had an app that said the rain would stop by 7:00pm which was gametime. Because I was driving west, it was the way that weather always comes through the city so Brampton has whatever weather my suburb gets one hour ahead of mine. There was no rain for the rest of the night when I arrived but the drive here I had three separate outbursts of driving rain. Since the game was on the natural grass at Victoria Park in Brampton I almost expected a city official at the gates to say the game was off. Players had some problems early on with some slipping around. It took Hamilton until 25 minutes to get a shot away and 30 minutes until they had a shot on net. ProStars started connnecting on some of their long balls during the second half. They mixed up their cornerkicks with some with long set ups and some quickly taken short ones to then crossed into the box. Referee Hussein Walji gave out just three Yellow cards (two to Hamilton) including one for HU Mujtaba Ameen for diving in the PS box trying to draw a Penalty kick at 66 minutes when the game was already out of reach at 4-0. The game had a lot of back and forth action usually outside each teams' 30 yard line with lots of offsides called. CPL York United FC's current roster includes forward Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy who was playing for ProStars as recently as the 2022 season while still a teenager. The win improves ProStars record to 7 wins, 3 ties, 10 losses for 24 points and moves them up one spot into eighth place although most teams will be playing tomorrow. They have two games to play to finish their season and should be safe from being caught in eleventh place and having to play against the second best Championship Division (second tier) team to stay in the Premier. Sigma FC would also probably like to thank Hamilton United as they also put six past them on Wednesday night climbing away from danger. The loss drops Hamilton United's record to 0 wins, 5 ties, 15 losses for 5 points. They will finish twelve (last) and will be relegated. They scored only their ninth and tenth regular season goals this year so it is easy to see their problem. They only had three players on their bench (nine is the maximum permitted—ProStars had six today). Andrew Derayeh acted as their head coach. I saw regular head coach Kamran Derayeh (father of Andrew) in the stands and the league app can flip back through past games and it appears to be he was not behind the bench because of Yellow card accumulation. I did pass on going to a battle of third and fourth place teams a lot closer to home and starting 30 minutes later which would have put me even further away from the rainstorm timeline but I wanted to see Hamilton so tonight I can say “I've now seen every L1O Men's Premier Division team a MINIMUM of twice this season”. That's done in 23 games. Only three teams I've only seen twice but I'm running out of time with no playoffs to squeeze in some more games. Overhead storm clouds moved in just before game time and I went back into the parking lot to get my umbrella. I should have grabbed my bug repellent too as black flies and mosquitos started coming out during the last ten minutes of the game as it got dark. Rocket Robinback to 2024 League1 Ontario menu
