There was a table-topping showdown in the Men’s Premier as the women’s divisions played out their penultimate rounds of matches.

Close in the Championship

The weekend action got under way via the Men’s Championship on Friday, which saw FC London maintain their title hopes with a 2-1 win at Windsor City thanks to a brace from Ryan Baker.

St Catharines Roma Wolves continued their victory streak with a 4-1 success over North Mississauga. They have now won their last seven matches and have almost guaranteed a top-half finish in the table with three games to go.

Elsewhere on Friday, Master’s FA kept their hopes of avoiding the relegation playoff spot alive after a 3-1 win at Darby. They are now one point above the dreaded last place, occupied by Pickering.

Saturday’s games from the Men’s Championship saw TFC Academy go top after edging past BVB IA Waterloo 2-1, and Unionville Milliken beat rock-bottom Pickering 5-3 in a pulsating game at the Ontario Soccer Centre which both sides needed to win for different reasons.

After lots of midweek action in the Women’s Championship, Scrosoppi managed to keep their title dreams alive after edging past Pickering 3-2 on Friday, with defender Sahara Zingano finding the net again.

ProStars and Tecumseh United both won 1-0 against Hamilton United and Unionville Milliken respectively in the Women’s Championship on Saturday. Hamilton’s loss has impacted their chances of the Women’s Championship crown as they prepare for their final match of the campaign this week.

Now leading the way in the division are BVB IA Waterloo after their 4-2 win at Darby. While they are only ahead of Scrosoppi in the standings on tiebreakers, they do have an extra game left to wrap up the title.

Burlington and Rush Canada also tied 1-1 after Sienna Caesar’s injury-time equalizer for the hosts.

Top of the crop

The action from the Men’s Premier saw Alliance United keep tabs on the leading pack after a 2-1 victory at winless Hamilton United, following Pablo Hempelmann-Perez’s injury-time strike.

Simcoe County Rovers fired five past Blue Devils without reply to go fifth in the standings; arguably Rovers’ most impressive result of the season and they are now unbeaten in five. North Toronto also won big on Saturday; putting four past hosts Sigma to move to seventh.

Woodbridge Strikers remain in the title race after a 3-1 win at ProStars the following day, with Ronaldo Marshall on the scoresheet for the visitors, while Burlington ended their dire run by beating Guelph United 3-2. Leaford Allen netted an injury-time winner for the hosts.

Sunday also brought a top-two showdown that saw Vaughan Azzurri held to a 2-2 tie by Scrosoppi. All the goals came in quick succession in the second half, but neither side could find victory, leaving just one point separating the top three teams in the standings.

Finishing with a flourish

Annika Arsenault’s brace for Simcoe County Rovers on Saturday in their 3-1 win over North Mississauga – live on YouTube – means the Barrie side will spend another season in the Women’s Premier Division, and the Panthers will play in the promotion/relegation playoff.

Regular-season champions NDC Ontario were beaten for the second game running; this time 4-0 by FC London, who are looking to finish second in the final standings.

London’s hopes of finishing second were improved by North Toronto’s 3-1 defeat at home to Guelph United thanks to Violet Hipkin’s brace at Downsview Park. North Toronto will need to shake off this defeat quickly before their Women’s L1 Cup Final with FC London on Wednesday.

Sunday’s action saw Vaughan Azzurri confirm at least fifth in the standings after their 2-1 win at Blue Devils, and Woodbridge Strikers were held to a 2-2 tie by Alliance United.

Scrosoppi and Sigma men’s B teams have won their conferences in Men’s League2, but a loss to Sudbury Cyclones saw them lose grip on the summit of the Northeast Conference. Rush Canada and The Borough also lost, and St Catharines Roma Wolves were defeated 5-0 by Hamilton United B in the women’s Southwest Division.
