July 13, 2024...League1 Ontario...ProStars FC vs Burlington SC game report (by Rocket Robin)
Result and details of the Saturday July 13, 2024 League1 Ontario Men's Premier game between ProStars FC and Burlington SC played at Victoria Park in Brampton at 7:00pm. I will be posting pictures, logos, and more of a play-by-play about this game someday (ie. the offseason). 21 min...ProStars Kyse Majel GOAL...PS Taha Ilyass chips cross from 22 yards on right over to PS Milan Beader at 10 yards even with left post who heads ball forward and Majel cutting over from center of box leans forward and heads in 4 yarder that squeezes between diving goalie Calum Morrison and left post. 76 min...ProStars Baldwin Cerros GOAL...PS Taha Ilyass who'd taken long thrown clearance from PS goalie feeds pass up left wing for Cerros to dribble upfield and shoot 12 yarder from left along the 5 yard line over the upraised hand of the sprawling goalie and a defender Dilman Grewal jabs at the ball with his leg and knocks it into center of own net from 2 yards.Final Score:.....ProStars FC........2.........Burlington SC...........0..........
Attendance started off slow but peaked at about 120 by halftime. Fans coming out were obviously going to miss the Copa third place game between Canada and Uruguay starting right at halftime of this game. The temperature was still 30C at the start. (I've made a mental note to start checking the temperature at game time instead of just writing 'it was hot'). By halftime it had dropped to 28C but without the sun burning down directly it felt cooler that that. Samuel Diltz earned the shutout for ProStars with a few good flying saves to catch shots destined for the corners of the net. Calum Morrison had to be sharp for Burlington to keep them in the game when they pressed for a goal leaving him exposed on a number of 2 v 1 counterattacks. Referee Kevin McEleney gave out six Yellow cards (four to Burlington although two were to members of their coaching staff for complaining about calls or missed calls—actually looking back at my notes, all the Burlington Yellows were for dissent!). He did schedule one water break for each half. The man operating the camcorder on a pole (coverage for the league at every game) said he thought the ProStars first goal was offside and Burlington had a legit call for a Penalty kick somewhere in the game although I don't think he meant the rather lame attempt to draw one when Daniel Jodah dribbled down the right sideline and send a low cross along the 18 yard line and Mauro Lulli turned back from 15 yards and went down maybe too easily with contact from PS Jayden Pinheiro. This turned out to be the 'Game of the Week' with Pierce Lang commentating from the league lineups on his phone (no paper copies any more) and photographer Martin Bazyl taking still-pictures of the action. Perfect comment on the fortunes of Burlington in the last few games were on practically the last kick with Juan Jaramillo sending in a 30 yard freekick from the right over a crowd of players in the box to find an open Christian Ferraro on the left at 8 yards to blast a shot that deflected off charging Leaford Allen that bounced back off Ferraro and rolled harmlessly for a goalkick. Allen and the rest of the team had some poor/off target shooting most noticeably in the second half. With all four games in the Men's Premier Division finished by the time I got home, the standings pause at least until tomorrow: The win improves ProStars record to 5 wins, 3 ties, 5 losses for 18 points. That's good for tie for sixth although they are ranked seventh because Blue Devils who also won today and have an identical record, have scored more goals. The loss for Burlington drops them to 6 wins, 1 tie, 5 losses for 19 points and fifth place. Their record since beating ProStars on June 1st is 0 wins, 1 tie, 5 losses as they continue to fall away from the title picture. ProStars record since that June 1st game was to win their first game of the season the next weekend and now stretch to 5 wins, 0 ties, 2 losses as they pulled out of the relegation zone.
