49 min...Scrosoppi Faris Ammari GOAL...Ammari receives low cross through box from right and shoots low 10 yarder between players and past goalie to right corner of net.

Final Score: ProStars FC.......2.......Scrosoppi FC.......1........

Attendance climbed to about 110 by halftime. The final group matches of Group A in the COPA with Canada playing Chile and Argentina vs Peru started just after our halftime. The afternoon had the first two games of the Euros Round of 16. The weather was fine now with a bright sun in the northwest and it was still warm but the area had a heavy morning rain and it made the field wet with there still some boggy parts just outside the sidelines. About one-third of the fans were cheering for Scrosoppi (my estimate). This was certainly a shorter drive from Milton to Brampton—last season Scrosoppi fans had to continue the drive eastward all the way to Vaughan to play at the Ontario Soccer Centre as their grounds and school building, Bishop Reding was undergoing renovations.

Scrosoppi started the day as the last undefeated team in league play, now in Week 10 with them being 5 wins, 3 ties, 0 losses for 18 points. That was only good for fourth place because of the three teams all one point above them had played more games and most had fewer ties. ProStars started today ranked tenth (tied for ninth but with one less win than Guelph) with real worries about falling to twelfth (automatic relegation) or eleventh (playoff at the end of the season against the second place finisher of the second tier Championship Division).

Both coaches answered after the game that the stopped penalty kick and follow up save sequence was considered a huge turning point allowing ProStars to maintain their lead. Scrosoppi had only conceded four league goals until today so ProStars scoring more goals was unlikely.

Referee Hassane Rifai gave out only three Yellow cards with ProStars earning two—one for a player not giving ten yards on a quickly taken freekick inside the Scrosoppi end. Rifai was not giving another Penalty kick when Scrosoppi's Khody Ellis dived/was bumped over well into second half injury time. The officials ignored the complaints from the fans hollering from the stands.

There were a lot of injuries during the game. Not all from rough play as players had problems keeping their feet on the slippery ground. Rain had stopped well before game time and the natural grass field had drained completely except a few patches just beyond the sideline but after the game the ground looked like a horse race had taken place with divots kicked up. The deep-cleats shoes were the ones to wear today! Still Pro Stars head coach Danny Costa said he prefers this field to their second home at the Mattamy Centre in Mississauga because he said a lot of his players suffered injuries on the artificial turf.

This was the last game of the day so all places are confirmed for Saturday night with two more games to complete the weekend tomorrow.

ProStars jumps three places with a record of 3 wins, 5 losses, 3 ties for 12 points and a share of sixth place although ranked seventh because Blue Devils FC have played one less game.

Scrosoppi stay all alone in fourth place with a record of 5 wins, 1 loss, 3 ties for 18 points. A win would have got them into second place, behind only Woodbridge Strikers and with two games in hand. Can they catch them? Maybe but Alliance United are three points behind Woodbridge and have three games in hand. All these thunderstorm postponed games will cause scheduling havoc because almost all teams still have more than half their sehedule to play before the season wraps up on the Labour Day weekend.

What are your goals for the second half of the season?
Your home games are split between Mattamy Centre (field turf) and Victoria Park (grass), do you have a preference?

This year with no playoffs, the regular season is all the more important?
How much of a benefit is it this year to be back at your home stadium in Milton?
