WEEKLY REWIND
The fight for points continued as we surpassed the first-quarter mark in the 2024 regular season.
Five goals in the fifth win
For the second straight match week, NDC Ontario got things up and running in the women’s top tier, inflicting more misery
on Blue Devils with a 5-1 win. April Lantaigne on the scoresheet again for the hosts as they picked up a fifth straight victory.
The Men’s Championship served up another game-of-the-season contender as Darby got the better of North Mississauga with
a 4-3 win, thanks in part to Tyler Sukovski’s first-half brace; the result leaving the visitors still in search of their
first win of the campaign.
The same couldn’t be said for Darby’s women’s team in the women’s second tier, who narrowly lost 3-2 at home to ProStars;
Patrycia Kozak’s brace proved enough to give the visitors their first victory of the regular season.
Elsewhere, Pickering dispatched Tecumseh United 3-0 thanks to goals from Emily Cullen, Mackenzie Scott and Serena McDonald.
St Catharines Roma Wolves’ women’s team also won against Rush Canada B in League2 to go top of the Southwest Conference.
Saturday scoring streak
In the Men’s Premier Division, Alliance United recovered from their defeat last week as they dismantled Hamilton United 5-0,
with Nikola Stakic’s brace proving vital in a victory which took the hosts up to fourth in the standings.
North Toronto also had reason to celebrate; they picked up their first win of the campaign thanks in part to Fadi Salback’s
two strikes in a 4-1 victory over Sigma. But Simcoe County Rovers’ struggles continued with a 2-1 home loss to high-flying
Burlington; goals from Mauro Lulli and Augustus Oku extended the Bayhawks’ perfect start to the season.
In the women’s top tier, however, goals from Holly O’neill and Madelyn Robbins saw Simcoe pick up their first win
of the campaign; beating FC London 2-1.
North Toronto solidified second place in the standings with a 2-1 success at Alliance United. Elise Bell scored the winner
– five minutes after Emma Warren had equalized for the visitors – that dropped the reigning champions to fifth.
TFC Academy are on a roll in the Men’s Championship, picking up their fifth win from divisional five games thanks to a treble
from Emile Kisse in a 6-0 victory over Pickering. Gershom Dupuy’s brace sealed a 2-1 win for Windsor City at St Catharines Roma,
while Aman Khanna and Bai Essa Coker’s goals gave FC London a 2-1 success over Master’s FA.
Kaden Bennett’s leveler was enough to rescue a point for Unionville Milliken at home to BVB IA Waterloo; the game finished 1-1.
The same game in the Women’s Championship finished 1-0 to Milliken thanks to Miya Grant-Clavijo’s 70th-minute strike.
Goals galore on Sunday
Blue Devils bagged their second 2024 Men’s Premier Division victory as they notched a 3-0 win over ProStars, with Jacob Ball’s
injury-time strike sealing the deal for the hosts who now sit sixth in the standings.
After tying with Woodbridge Strikers last week, Scrosoppi emphatically returned to winning ways with a 5-1 victory
at Guelph United with thanks to Montther Mohsen’s treble.
Woodbridge Strikers and Vaughan Azzurri played out a thrilling tie at Vaughan Grove Field as the game finished 2-2 with
both sides scoring in the final 10 minutes. The same game in the women’s top tier finished 2-1 in favour of Woodbridge;
Samantha Murphy’s brace proving the difference for the hosts.
Elsewhere in the Women’s Premier Division, Guelph United held North Mississauga to a 2-2 tie after Olivia Brown’s
71st-minute equalizer rescued a point for the hosts.
Eight goals were scored across the women’s second tier on Sunday, as Scrosoppi put five past Burlington without reply
and Hamilton United handed Rush Canada their third defeat of the campaign after Erin Hedgcock’s opener helped the hosts
to a 3-0 win.
In League2, it was a memorable day for the expansion teams as The Borough recorded a 2-1 win at Burlington B thanks
to a second-half turnaround, capped off by Alex Maadanian’s spot kick in the third minute of added time. Sudbury Cyclones won 4-0
at home against Simcoe County Rovers B.
