WEEKLY REWIND

The latest matchweek saw plenty of goals flying in across the divisions, with points proving crucial even this early in the season.

Friday-night Strikes

In the Women’s Premier, NDC Ontario continued their 100 per cent start to the new campaign, and ruined FC London’s winning record in doing so. Chinonyerem Chukwu’s brace helped the 2022 champions pick up a 3-1 win over FC London at the Ontario Soccer Centre, asserting their place at the top of the standings.

The Men’s Championship was the home of an incredible eight-goal thriller between North Mississauga and Pickering. The hosts’ Cameryon Stewart started and finished the scoring in a 4-4 tie; his second spot-kick of the game rescuing a point for his side in the fourth minute of added time.

Elsewhere, BVB IA Waterloo bagged their second win of the new campaign with a 3-0 victory over Darby, thanks in part to Logan Rieck’s brace, while goals from Daniel Avila and Aidan O’Keeffe guided Master’s FA to a 2-0 success on the road to St Catharines Roma Wolves.

Jam-packed Saturday

The Men’s Premier Division’s early pacesetters, Scrosoppi, picked up a 4-2 win over North Toronto with goals from Khody Ellis and Tomasz Skublak for the second week running.

Burlington are not far behind them; they also maintained their 100% start to the new campaign with a narrow 1-0 success over Guelph United. Augustus Oku was on the scoresheet once again for the visitors.

Mathieu Laurent netted the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory for Vaughan Azzurri on the road to ProStars, while Dusan Kovacevic and Michael Maslanka struck late for Alliance United to leave Sigma bottom in the early standings.

Champions Simcoe County Rovers were defeated 3-1 at home to Woodbridge Strikers thanks to goals from Luca Pinto, Jacob Spizzirri and Franz Mella. Three of the four goals in this game came moments before and after the half-time break – a crazy period from which Woodbridge managed to hold their lead.

It was the same matchup in the Women’s Premier, and Woodbridge were also victorious. Samantha Murphy’s treble proved the difference for the visitor in a game that finished 3-2.

Sasha Marikano’s 90th-minute winner saw Guelph United steal a 2-1 victory late on at Alliance United, while North Toronto were held to a 1-1 tie by Vaughan Azzurri thanks to Sabrina Fabiano’s second-half leveler from the spot.

The only game in the men’s second tier on Saturday saw TFC Academy cruise to a 3-0 win over Windsor City, with Luca Accettola scoring once again for the hosts.

The women’s second tier saw Darby win for the second time this campaign as they beat Unionville Milliken 2-1 thanks to Christine Exeter’s 71st-minute winner. Elsewhere, Meaghan Hogg’s 89th-minute equalizer – the game’s third goal in the last 10 minutes – saw the points shared between Pickering and Rush Canada Academy in a 2-2 tie.

Blue Devils doubleheader

The men’s top tier saw Blue Devils comfortably win 3-0 at Hamilton United on Sunday, thanks to goals from Gianluca Spadafora, Brandon Duarte and Damola Akanni. But in the Women’s Premier, North Mississauga earned their first win of the campaign with a 4-2 success against the Oakville side.

BVB IA Waterloo are the early leaders in the Women’s Championship following their third straight win to begin the campaign; they were emphatic 5-1 winners on the road to Burlington. Elsewhere, Aalayah Lully’s brace was enough for Scrosoppi to edge past ProStars in a 2-1 win.

It was an unbeaten week for the Men’s League2 ‘A’ teams. Rush Canada won 3-1 against Hamilton United B, and Sudbury Cyclones and The Borough FC both picked up a point.
