Final Score:......York 9 FC.........1.......Cavalry FC.........1...........

Attendance was not announced but on the CPL website it listed 2568. The east side stands were
empty. I suppose the promotion last weekend with hundreds of children and parents from local
soccer teams was just a one-off and we were back to our smallish crowds again. York hasn't
won a home game since July 27th which could turn some people off more than the bleek weather we've
had this weekend.

A foul-filled game with a total of eight cards given out by referee Filip Dujic with six going to Cavalry
and two of those were Red. I'd seen a foul filled game last night at the League 1 Ontario championship
game.

York avoid humiliation with the result. They held a two man advantage in a scoreless game from 72 minutes
yet allowed a Cavalry goal on a great individual effort by Nico Pasquotti running through the defence
then cutting a low shot into the opposite corner of the net from just inside the box. I saw Toronto FC
on television a few years ago allow a goal against while up two men in San Jose and lose. That caused
some fans to doubt goaltender Alex Bono and they still haven't forgiven him to this day.

Wataru Murofushi scored an equalizer at 95 minutes which raised some complaints as there was only
five minutes of added time announced however a lot of delays during that time including a Yellow
card for delaying a York throw-in. That's why they announce "A MINIMUM of X minutes has been added..."

Lots of controvesy in this game. Cavalry head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr blamed the officiating with
too few calls for fouls. I saw that Ryan Telfer was victim of quite a few knocks but he had the
last laugh when he drew a Cavalry player to be Red carded to hit him as the referee was separating
them and later to have another player take a second Yellow to prevent a breakaway after that player
took a Yellow 8 minutes earlier.

Before the game if we were told it would be a tie, a lot of people would be happy drawing arguably the
best team in the league however going up two men and allowing a goal will never be forgotten. A 0-0
result after being up two men wouldn't get so many people upset because we'd expect the disadvantaged
team to bunker around their own box.

There were all kinds of problems with the scoreboard today. There was always a black blob on the
screen blacking out some of the picture. The scoreboard actually turned off a few times (to reboot?)
so I was glad I have a wristwatch.

Cavalry had only brought five substitutions today--four outfield players. Now they have 'lost'
three more players through suspension--(the two Reds and Julian Buscher through Yellow card accumulation).
One thing for next year in my opinion is the teams need to have larger rosters. I was going to ask
Wheeldon if he agreed but the press conference was ended abrubtly.

I was getting by with a semi-broken cell phone. It had no network connectivity but thankfully
the voice recorder still worked so I was able to record the post game press conferences.

Before today which was a triple-header of CPL games and this was the last game played, only
HFX Wanderers had been officially knocked out of post season contention. After today four
other teams joined them on the sidelines leaving only the two teams that had run away with the
league both in the Spring and Fall season.

York does improve their record to 5 wins, 2 ties, and 7 losses and still hold third place with 17 points.
The most wins after the two frontrunners but tied with the most losses with Pacific FC and the
fewest ties of any club in the league. The three points earned for a win keeps them ahead of the group
of 'the other five'.

If you can believe the pregame comments, Forge FC was cheering for Cavalry FC to win as that would
clinch a spot for Forge in the combined standings that is the deciding factor if Cavalry win the
Fall Season title. Cavalry won the Spring title so they are assured a spot in the final. There is
going to be a final series--some Eurosnobs wanted Cavalry to be given the title but I say this will
be a chance for the league to earn some more publicity like getting the games on CBC and reaching
more fans. I would expect Forge would have wanted York to win as they can earn the spot on their
own by finishing first--expecting some easy games to finish the season to clinch the Fall title and
they would clinch the second method of qualifying with a win as soon as Wednesday night.

Cavalry FC and Forge FC have been finally proclaimed as the finalists in the CPL Championship series
scheduled for October 26th in Hamilton and November 2nd in Calgary. A lot can be said about whether
it's an advantage to play the second game at home but there was no choice as the CFL football team
in Hamilton has the stadium booked November 2nd for a game against Toronto Argonauts. Remember the
ownership for Forge FC are the same as owns the CFL team and when the league got started at the
beginning of this year there wasn't going to be any playoffs.

Cavalry FC Nico Pasquotti, Tommy Wheeldon Jr, and Marco Carducci...9 min 17 sec (for Wheeldon Jr) (ooh I get in the first two questions!) Have you ever coached in a game like that before, where you go down two men and then score? There was no hold back strategy and you just kept going? What made the game so rough? Was your team goaded in to retaliating? (for Pasquotti) What is it about these games against teams from Ontario that get so emotional? What is the emotion that goes through you in the back of your head when this happens? (for Wheeldon Jr) What do you think about the Championship series now that you know your opponent and also that you have to play Forge FC again in the regular season? How will you play Forge FC in these championship games? What did you think about the mentality of your team after going down to nine men? (for Carducci) What would be your strategy when you go down by two men? (for Wheeldon Jr) How has team chemistry changed since the start of the season now that other teams have played together longer? How about the Forge FC chemistry? Do you get annoyed when others say you guys have an advantage because you have been together longer? York 9 FC forward Ryan Telfer, head coach Jimmy Brennan, and defender Justin Springer York 9 FC Ryan Telfer, Jimmy Brennan, and Justin Springer...11 min 34 sec (for Brennan) A very emotional game so what are your thoughts on the match? What did you think about just before they scored ie on your chance? (for Telfer) Do you feel like you were targeted? Was it the Mavila challenge? (for Springer) Where do you see your team's defensive organization? (for Brennan) What did you think of Murofushi's performance? (my question) Now that you're officially out of the playoffs, will there be a different strategy you will play? Do you take this performance against the best team as a positive? Can you talk about your relationship with you and your internationals and their coaches? Do you have any thoughts on the officiating?
