HIGHLIGHTS: Pacific grab rare clean sheet in 2-0 win over York9 August 17, 2019 Canadian Premier League Pacific FC earned their first clean sheet in 14 matches and three points away to York9 FC on Saturday, notching 2-0 win and their first shutout since May. The Nine Stripes controlled the bulk of possession early, as they would for long stretches of the match, managing a few attempts on goal that failed to challenge Pacific FC goalkeeper Mark Village. Despite a lack of first-half chances, PFC struck first in the 38th minute when bulky striker Terran Campbell out-framed Joe Di Chiara on an in-swinging free-kick, nodding home his league-leading eighth goal of the CPL season. Zachary Verhoven sealed York9’s fate in injury time with a goal from halfway, when Nathan Ingham was called up for a corner, playing out eerily similar to Y9’s last home match to Valour. Village made seven saves to secure the clean sheet. York9 will now move quickly onward from this home clash, travelling to Calgary for a high-stakes tilt with Cavalry FC on Wednesday, August 21 (9:00 p.m. ET, 7:00 p.m. MT, on OneSoccer). PFC’s next contest won’t be until Saturday, Aug. 24 when they’ll return to Van Isle for the grand re-opening of Westhills Stadium and a match against Valour FC (6:00 p.m. ET, 3:00 p.m. PT, on OneSoccer). Box Score Goals 38' – Terran Campbell (Pacific FC) 90+2' – Zachary Verhoven (Pacific FC) Discipline 32' Yellow – Victor Blasco (Pacific FC) 32' Yellow – Manuel Aparicio (York9 FC) 45' Yellow – Daniel Gogarty (York9 FC) 59' Yellow – Kadin Chung (Pacific FC) Three Key Performers Diyaeddine Abzi (York9 FC) Credit to left fullback Abzi, who was routinely found higher up the pitch than some of his midfield teammates. Pushing play and working at speed up the touchline, Abzi helped find space in the tight corners at York Lions Stadium. Mark Village (Pacific FC) Village was stellar in a return to the side, making seven saves and grabbing a long-awaited clean sheet for PFC. An acrobatic effort on Abzi in the second half was a highlight. Terran Campbell (Pacific FC) Golden boot leader Campbell displayed some impressive positional play with his goal, getting in front of his defender in a key area. His header was a thing of beauty too, finessed towards the back post with a defender draped on his back.
