Final Score:....York 9 FC.......0......Pacific FC.........2.....

Attendance was not announced but from various on-line sources I've read it was 2748.
The stands on the west side did seem busy. There was some of the crowd in the east side
stands but maybe only 100. Those stands have only been opened for the season opener
for Forge FC travelling fans and then the Canadian Championship match against
Montreal Impact to handle the overflow crowd. I'm sure today's fans could have been
squeezed into the west stands. It's hard to say whether OneSoccer fans are more upset
by the aesthetics of watching completely empty stands or is it worse to see 100 fans
in stands that hold 1500? Hey but 'Trumpet Guy' was back in the supporter's section
after missing the last game.

Pacific's lineup only listed four outfield subs and they were all forwards. The
starting position listed six defenders although they didn't all play deep. There
were some announcements that Pacific were going to sign (or had already) some new
players but they weren't revealed for this game.

Pacific earn their first shutout since May 12 in a 0-0 road game against FC Edmonton.
Mark Village had to make some good saves to preserve it. He hadn't played since June 23rd.
His two saves on Diyaeddine Abzi were his best. PFC never had the insurance goal until
time added in the second half.

Terran Campbell scored his league leading ninth goal of the season.

Zachary Verhoven scored PFC's second goal. It was his first CPL goal and came
on his 21st birthday. Ingham allowed his second chipped goal in a row while he's caught
70 yards downfield. At the press conference after the game York head coach Jimmy Brennan
put the blame on Ingham for his wandering up field and he should have let one of his
teammates take it upfield. Brennan also said his team “...looked sluggish in the beginning,
our energy levels were down,...today was off, everything felt difficult, I think
the quality of the balls delivered into the box was off, the boys were off today!”.
“We had our chances (the finishes) we were just not clinical”.

In the pregame notes, (given out for the first time this game) it listed Ingham as making
the most saves the CPL at 52. Rodrigo Gattas was listed as attempting the most shots
in the league at 39 but only played the first half today and didn't look good.

It was York's first loss to Pacific in four meetings this season.

At the start of today, York 9 FC would have tied for the lead if they'd won for a few hours
until the Forge FC vs Valour game because last night Cavalry FC and FC Edmonton tied 0-0
so neither team pulled much further ahead of York. York once again were playing the last
place team at home but again lost 2-0 with the insurance goal scored on an empty net chip.

York goes two games in a row without scoring and use up two home games. Quite a let down
after setting a league record with six goals in their win against HFX Wanderers. One excuse
is the momentum of that win was wasted because they had a two week gap in their schedule.
Pacific were tied with most goals given up in the Fall season with 14.

York now are away for four road games and won't be back until September 15th when they host
Valour FC again. It wouldn't completely surprise me if they are the last place team by then.
Their road trip starts Wednesday August 21st against Cavalry FC then Sunday the 25th against
FC Edmonton, Wednesday September 8th at Forge FC (rescheduled from August 2nd because
of Forge's run in the CONCACAF League qualifying), and finishing Wednesday September 11th
at Pacific FC. The home game of Wednesday August 28th against Forge FC has been moved
to a later date.

The band 'Arcadia Live!' have worked their way inside the stadium from the sidewalk setup
outside the ticket booth back for the Montreal Impact game months ago. For that game
I passed through the gates so early they were still setting up their equipment and I didn't
know they had a female singer. Today they were set up inside the north side entrance and
got to play pre-game and at halftime. Strange to hear a woman sing Michael Jackson's
'Billie Jean' and Cee Lo Green's 'Forget You' (keeping it clean!) but the Carrie Underwood
cover was more expected. She got most of the lead vocals. Further reading reveals that
the company appears they are really a production company and they put the bands together
for whatever you want to pay. Maybe there wasn't a female singer last time. This one
looked five piece. No they didn't sing 'Election Day' nor 'Goodbye Is Forever' like
the Duran Duran spinoff band in the mid 1980s.

The York players were ready to leave to go to the KISS concert downtown and would have
just enough time to get there as it was supposed to start at 7:30pm. There was what turned
out to be a promotion between the league and the band which infuriated the CPL internet
community because the concert was held in Toronto and the band wasn't touring any other
CPL cities--one stop in Montreal on their farewell tour. I asked a cryptic question
at today's post game press conference squeezing in three songs from the band's 1975 breakout
album 'KISS Alive!'. I was a poor teenager back in those days--which was another complaint
by the CPL community in that the band was past their prime and weren't Canadian. The CPL
ads with the rather generic facepaint were sure not infringing on any band copywrites.

I talked to today's fourth official David Barrie before today's game. Last week he was
the referee. It was Jason Olinsky who was a referee's assistant last week as Sean Hornsby
had received a concussion in second half added time the week earlier while officiating
a game in Ottawa in USL for the Fury. The OneSoccer broadcast and site didn't notice
the change but our game sheets had been amended. By the previous Wednesday there was
still some health concerns so the switch was made. I saw the changed listings but was
still confused because they are both bald guys! Get well soon Sean!

game held at York Lions Stadium (by Rocket Robin)

Pacific FC forward Terran Campbell, head coach Michael Silberbauer, and goalie Mark Village Pacific FC Terran Campbell, Michael Silberbauer, and Mark Village...7 min 1 sec (for Campbell) Did you picture yourself halfway through the season that you'd be the league's leading scorer? Do you see as a goal of playing for the Canadian U-23 side? Have you heard from the CSA? (for Silberbauer) How different is it to have an almost full squad? (for Village) What was it like and how good was it to get a clean sheet? (for Silberbauer) What was the team approach for today? (for Campbell) How is your pairing with Blasco? (for Silberbauer) What difference will it make now that you have your pro coaching licence? (for Village) How much did you learn in your time with the USL and what does the experience bring for you to the CPL? (for Silberbauer) Will the team stay in Ontario to play Forge FC? [I botch this question as I confused their schedule and forgot their home game in between]. (for Silberbauer and Village) How exciting will it be to play your home game with the new stand ready for fans? York 9 FC forward Ryan Telfer, head coach Jimmy Brennan, and midfielder Luca Gasparotto [photo credit OneSoccer...I forgot to take a picture while I was there so grabbed a screen capture when I got home] York 9 FC Ryan Telfer, Jimmy Brennan, and Luca Gasparotto...12 min 54 sec (for Brennan) How did the game play out? Do you care about the two games in a row of last minute chipped goals against? (for Telfer) What is the feeling in the locker room knowing you were controlling for large portions of the game? (for Brennan) Did you know the strategy of Pacific? (for Gasparotto) How do you guys prepare for the upcoming four road games? (for Brennan) How faint are the margins between the teams in the league? Is the mentality off looking at teams below you on the table? Could you have defended that first goal better? (for Telfer) Rumours of Trinidad & Tobago and/or Canada call up? Brennan also answers this question. (my question for all of them) About tonight, the way you feel after conceding a DEUCE, so is it COLD GIN TIME AGAIN or do you see a BLACK DIAMOND in the rough? Do you know what I'm talking about?* (for Brennan) More about your feelings after losing these games? *Deuce, Cold Gin Time Again, and Black Diamond were all songs on the 'KISS Alive!' album. The team/league has been using social media to promote the KISS concert that is taking place tonight. Some of the team is supposed to attend...starting at 7:30pm which means they better get going as it's 6:00pm as this press conference is wrapping up and they've got to get downtown fast!
