Highlights

York9 FC and FC Edmonton split points on Wednesday in a scoreless draw at York Lions Stadium.

The Canadian Premier League match was the third tilt between the sides in as many weeks, with Y9
taking their Canadian Championship Qualifying Round 2 tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Despite Y9 having the run of the play in the first half, FCE striker Tomi Ameobi had the best
chance at goal in the first 45 minutes, slicing a clear-cut effort near the penalty spot just wide.
At the other end, Connor James made three saves in the first half, four saves total, proving
to be a safe pair of hands for the Eddies.

York9 FC’s came centimetres away from scoring the first goal in the 47th minute when a Manny Aparicio
header was cleared off the line by FCE defender Bruno Zebie.

That chance predated a more open second half as both sides tired. However, neither side managed
to put a ball behind the opposing goalkeeper through 90 minutes.

It’s the second scoreless draw the Eddies have been part of this league season, with the first
coming to Pacific in their home opener last month. York9 took part in a nil-nil result
in the CanChamp against Blainville.

York9 continues their home stand on Saturday as they host HFX Wanderers FC (3:30 p.m. ET, on OneSoccer).
FC Edmonton will stay on the road, with a cross-country trip to play Pacific FC slated for Sunday
(6:00 p.m. ET, 3:00 p.m. PT, on OneSoccer).

Three key performers

Ryan Telfer (York9 FC)
York9’s right winger was a cut above in the middle of the park. Telfer produced smart moves again
and again, cutting FCE’s 4-4-2 open a handful of times while also delivering some smart passes.

Oumar Diouck (FC Edmonton)
Playing as a second striker, Oumar Diouck had a great game, despite failing to score. The Belgian
attacker set up Ameobi’s chance in the first half with some brilliant pressing and nearly scored
in the second half.

Connor James (FC Edmonton)
FC Edmonton’s starting goalkeeper has been a bright spot for the Eddies this season, Wednesday night
included. Four saves kept the Eddies in the match until the end.
