Final Score:...York 9 FC.......1.......A.S. Blainville......0.......
(York 9 FC wins series 1-0 on aggregate).

Attendance was not announced. I couldn't see how many were there from my angle in the press box. Estimates on the message boards
say there were 700 to 1000 people at most. The East side stands were NOT occupied tonight but I was told by league staff that they would
be open on Saturday for York 9's first home game of the CPL. The opponents will be Forge FC and there is supposed to be some kind of ticket
giveaway just as we were given tickets to the CPL inaugural game in Hamilton last month. [late news--The league site published 1723]

I'd advise fans coming by the TTC subway to use the 'Pioneer Village' station NOT the 'York University' station as it is a long zig-zag walk
from there to this stadium.

This game was tense until the end. Even with York scoring at 70 minutes the result could have been flipped if Blainville had scored the critical
away goal as a 1-1 tie would have seen the visitors advance. I counted crucial chances missed at 81 and 88 minutes that would have let that happen.
ASB Mitchell Syla was sending in some excellent crosses from the left in the second half.

The temperature was cooling from the afternoon and a slight rain even fell. I turned back home and changed into my parka because I expected it would
be colder tonight. Winter coats near the end of May?

The result means York 9 FC move on to the next round against FC Edmonton. That series will be played on Wednesday June 5 at York Lions Stadium
and the following Wednesday in Edmonton.

In the other series, Vaughan Azzurri won 1-0 in Halifax but they lost out to HFX Wanderers on the away goal rule as they lost their home game 3-2
on an added time Penalty kick goal. In the only battle of CPL teams, Cavalry FC beat Pacific FC 4-1 on aggregate. The team from Calgary has also
won all their league games too to take a commanding lead in the short ten game Spring Season and a guaranteed spot in the League Championship
in October.

The CPL must have sighed in relief that both their clubs advanced but it was a good showing from both the lower division teams.

York Lions Stadium has a nine lane track between the stands and the field. The premium priced 'race car' seats were pushed against the stands
making my front row seat in the elevated stands a better view as it was about 10 feet above the ground. I expect from illustrations that those
seats will be moved by fork lift closer to the sidelines and the player benches will be on the west side for future games. The opening two thirds
of this first season was going to be played at Alumni Field elsewhere on the campus but the team moved directly to this location and rushed some
renovations so they could move in so not everything was quite ready. This field is on natural grass but is short and narrow. Measuremants were
given on the OneSoccer broadcast as 100 yards by 58 which just meets the FIFA standards. A strip of what I've heard is artificial turf is surrounding
the field to make throw-ins easier than standing on the tough track surface.

Jim Brennan said after the game that tonight was the first time that his players had played on this field. He said the field was nice but will take
a little while to get used to and is a little bit narrow. He expects a chippy game against Forge FC this Saturday. He praised his defenders and said
they love to defend unlike some of today's players who are just looking to get forward.

First song played after the win was 'All We Do Is Win' by DJ Khaled. I've heard that at other events but I don't know yet if it will become the victory
song like TFC playing Depeche Mode's 'Just Can't Enough' when they win. At least it's 'newer' from 2010 than the 1981 Depeche Mode song.

The Toronto Star sports section today made their first attempt at listing the scores in the Canadian Championship. They made two bloopers of the three
results. York 9 possibly because of their name were listed as having a 9-0 lead in their series and Vaughan Azzurri were listed as having a 3-2 lead over
HFX Wanderers...put that down to North American sports editors always seeing the winner's name first rather than the home team. It made for some
laughs when I showed this at the game. Most troubling is my twitter post including a screen capture disappearing until the third time when I finally
did not put @StarSports. I wonder if they have a twitter post killer that can delete anything they don't like?
