Result and details of the Sunday August 12, 2018 MLS game between Toronto FC and New York City FC played at BMO Field in Toronto at 4:00PM. 8 min...TFC RED card...Jozy Altdore earns a direct ejection from referee Chico Grajeda after NYCFC Alexander Callens wins the ball from him at NYCFC 35 yard line and Altidore kicks him from behind in leg when Grajeda turns away dribbling ball. 14 min...NYCFC David Villa GOAL...NYCFC Ronald Mattarrita crosses from 15 yard line left sideline that bounces in box and TFC Justin Morrow heads from middle of box over to right where NYCFC Anton Tinnerholm on edge of box aligned with right post takes midair kick from 18 yards but ball squirts over to Villa at 15 yards aligned with left post and dribbles forward stepping around sliding TFC defender Eriq Zavaletta and shoots 7 yarder into right corner of net with goalie Alex Bono guarding left post. 26 min...TFC Sebastian Giovinco GOAL...TFC Michael Bradley recovers ball at NYCFC 40 yard line on right and rolls pass forward to TFC Victor Vazquez at 30 yard line even further to the right. Vazquez centers pass between two defenders to Giovinco at 20 yard line on slight right and he steps forward into box and rolls 16 yard shot into left corner of net past sliding goalie Brad Stuver at 5 yards. 35 min...NYCFC Ismael Tajouri-Shradi GOAL...Tajour-Shradi receives pass back from NYCFC Anton Tinnerholm at TFC 30 yard line on far right and cuts to middle of field and taps ball forward to NYCFC David Villa who taps ball back to him at TFC 25 yard line. He continues run to left and gets by TFC Marky Delgado who seems to jump over ball. Now from 20 yards on left he shoots low shot between two defenders and goalie sprawling at 3 yards gets hand to it but ball deflects under him into right side of net. 49 min...TFC Victor Vazquez GOAL...Vazquez receives tapped pass at NYCFC 40 yard line on right and cuts to middle and sends low pass over to left for TFC Justin Morrow at 40 yards. He runs forward to 25 yards and taps pass to TFC Sebastian Giovinco who runs between two defenders and one gets foot to but knocks it further forward to TFC Jonathan Osorio at 15 yards just inside left side of box. Osorio runs forward to end line and sends high cross where TFC Marky Delgado heads 7 yarder near right end line towards 6 yard box where Vazquez ducks head and heads 3 yarder from right post into center of net past lunging goalie. Vazquez then falls over end line injured looking like he took a kick in the shoulder. 87 min...NYCFC Ismael Tajouri-Shradi GOAL...NYCFC Maximiliano Moralez at TFC 50 yard line chips long pass from slight right downfield and TFC Ashtone Morgan at 28 yard line jumps up to pop header away from Moralez but backwards. TFC Hagglund standing behind NYCFC Jo Inge Berget at 18 yards heads ball down and forward where Tajouri-Shradi eludes sliding Morgan and blasts 22 yarder while even with left post into right corner of net past flying goalie. Final Score:...Toronto FC.......2.....New York City FC........3........ Attendance was announced as 27935 on this sunny hot humid day. Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was named as Jonathan Osorio. He was good even though he didn't score but had an assist on the Vazquez goal. Goal scorers Giovinco and Vazquez missed too many other chances to be named star of the game. NYCFC Alexander Callens was booed the entire game after Altidore kicked him and earned the Red card. At least the fans in my section didn't yell "He didn't touch him" as it was right in front of us. Was it just a Yellow? Sure! But then I wouldn't have thought Vancouver's Felipe deserved a Red card for a sliding tackle in the Canadian Championship game on Wednesday until Marky Delgado showed his welts after the game. Fans also booed the referee. TFC played well considering the had to play almost the entire game with ten men. They did come back twice against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference who closed towards first with leaders Atlanta not playing this weekend. The only Canadians TFC used today were starters Jonathan Osorio and later Ashtone Morgan was brought in as a substitute at 71 minutes. They also had Jay Chapman, Ryan Telfer, and Tosaint Ricketts but they were unused. They brought on new trade acquistion Jon Bakero who is a forward which meant another Canadian didn't even make the bench. At least this Wednesday they will be forced to use a minimum of three Canadian starters in the Canadian Championship final. We'd get to see Jordan Hamilton and Liam Fraser in the USL game starting 90 minutes after this game ended. The CNE grounds were covered with an obstacle course of concrete and fencing two weeks ago as the Indy car race course had still not been dismantled. Now today maneuvering was even more restricted with trailer trucks and fencing setting up for the Exhibition that will open this Friday.
