Match Recap: Fury FC @ Toronto FC II By OttawaFuryFC.com, 07/08/17, 10:30PM EDT Strong effort not enough in Toronto as Ottawa falls 1-0 The Recap Ottawa Fury FC displayed one of their strongest offensive efforts of the season Saturday evening at the Ontario Soccer Centre, but somehow it wasn’t enough to beat Toronto FC II. Despite a clear domination from Paul Dalglish’s side, with 13 shots – 10 coming from inside the box – Fury FC were unable to beat Mark Pais, and a late-second half goal from Luca Uccello proved to be the difference, as Toronto downed Ottawa 1-0. While Ottawa had countless great scoring opportunities at one end of the pitch, Toronto FC II capitalized on their only real chance of the game in the 73rd minute when Uccello sent a perfect shot over Callum Irving for a 1-0 lead. Fury FC threw everything they had at Toronto in the last minutes of the game, but Pais was rock-solid once again making an unbelievable save on Tucker Hume to preserve his team’s win. Ottawa had complete control of the game in the first half, producing eight shots, of which four were on target, but couldn’t find the back of the net. After a few blocked shots and a disallowed goal – with Steevan Dos Santos being in an offside position - Fury FC’s best chance came in the 43rd minute on a corner kick. After a nice delivery from Haworth, Ramon Martin Del Campo timed his jump perfectly and headed the ball to the bottom left corner, but a diving Pais denied him from his second goal of the season. The game was scoreless after 45 minutes. Fury FC had to work against the wind in the second half, but it didn’t matter. Paul Dalglish’s side was determined to score. Just after the hour mark, Dos Santos could have put his team in front, but his header missed just inches above the crossbar. As Fury FC were pressing and sending more bodies upfront, Toronto FC II capitalized on a counterattack to open the scoring. Brian James sent a perfect long through ball over Ottawa’s defence for Uccello who fired a shot from distance to give his side a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Dos Santos thought he had the equalizer but instead he got a second disallowed goal, as a foul was called on him in the box. In the dying minutes of the game, Irving sent a bomb to the opposition's side, Hume chested it down, fired a powerful shot on goal but Pais had the last word with a brilliant save. Toronto would hold on the 1-0 win – their third win of the season only. Andrae Campbell was issued a second yellow card late in the game and will serve a one-game suspension next week. Fury FC return home on July 12 for a friendly against the Montreal Impact before hosting the Rochester Rhinos on July 15. Post-game comments Fury FC GM and Head Coach, Paul Dalglish: “It’s a hard one to accept when there are so many positives to take out from this game. Last week we were deservedly beaten by Louisville, but this week we worked on a lot of things at training which they guys executed very well tonight. I really find it hard to accept that we’ve lost this game after one of our best performances of the season.“ “If we play like this, we will win 9 games out of 10, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves because we only have ourselves to blame for losing this game with so many missed chances. Apart from that, everything else about tonight’s performance was awesome.” Match Report Starting XI Ottawa Fury FC (4-2-3-1): Irving; Campbell, McEleney, Martin Del Campo, Edward; Rozeboom, Dixon (Sito 76'); Williams (Manesio 85'), Bruna (Hume 85'), Haworth; Dos Santos Toronto FC II (4-4-2): Pais; Campbell (McCrary 67'), Dunn-Johnson, Taintor, Boskovic; Uccello, Telfer, James, Fraser; Spencer (Andrews 82'), Endoh (Daniels 90+1') Scoring Summary: 73' TOR - Uccello (James) Caution Summary: 36' TOR - Campbell 57' OTT - Dixon 61' OTT - Campbell 90+5' OTT - Campbell Ejection Summary: 90+5' OTT - Campbell (2nd yellow) Next Match: July 12 vs Montreal Impact - 7 p.m. - TD Place *Friendly Next Home Match: July 12 vs Montreal Impact - 7 p.m. - TD Place *Friendly Next USL Home Match: July 15 vs Rochester Rhinos - 2 p.m. - TD Place
