The Young Reds were on the wrong side of a shootout in Charleston on Saturday evening
as they fell to the first-place Battery 6-1.

Both teams traded early spells of possession with the Reds coming close to opening
the scoring when Sergio Camargo played in Luca Uccello. Uccello forced a difficult
stop from the Battery ‘keeper Odisnel Cooper.

The hosts opened the scoring off a corner kick as the ball fell to the USL’s second
leading scorer Romario Williams. The Jamaican international made no mistake tucking
home his 12th of the season.

Shortly after the Battery doubled their lead off another corner. The ball made its
way to defender Forrest Lasso who sent it past Angelo Cavalluzzo for his 6th
of the season. Despite the Reds’ best efforts, the score went into the break at 2-0.

Just five minutes into the second half the Battery got another on an unlucky bounce
off Romario Williams. The goal moved Williams into the outright lead for goal scoring
in the USL. Dante Marini then fired home a wonder strike from well out to make
it 4-0 for the hosts.

Toronto FC II would get a goal back on a great play from a pair of Canadians.
Ryan Telfer played a long cross to the far post where Camargo sent his diving header
across the goal for his first of the season.

The Reds would come close to adding a second a couple of times as substitute
Ricardo John tried to make a late impact on the match. This was John’s first
appearance since April.

However, the Battery would add two more goals on the night to finish the match 6-1.

The Young Reds return to action on Canada Day when they play host to the
Harrisburg City Islanders. Kick-off is set for 5:00 PM so head on up to the OSC
for some long weekend footy. Tickets are available here.
