Match Preview: Charleston Battery vs. Toronto FC II By Sarah Cardamone, 06/23/17, 10:45AM EDT First-place Charleston Battery and fourteenth-place Toronto FC II meet for the first time this season Saturday night at MUSC Health Stadium. The Battery are in search of their ninth win, while TFC II are looking for just their third and first on the road. Charleston The Charleston Battery have held first place in the Eastern Conference for nine of the thirteen weeks of the USL season. The Battery remain in first place heading into the match against Toronto FC II despite settling for three draws in their last six matches, including their previous match against FC Cincinnati. Romario Williams and Forrest Lasso scored in the 2-2 draw at Nippert Stadium. Williams finished a Ricky Garbanzo cross in the 63rd minute to bring his season goal total to 11, one behind league-leader Dane Kelly. WIth the goal, Williams surpassed his 2016 goal total with 18 games left to play. Lasso scored his fifth league goal, seventh overall, ten minutes after Williams’ equalizer. The 6-5 center back beat his marker to a Neveal Hackshaw flick-on and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to put the Battery ahead. Cincinnati’s Andrew Wiedeman cancelled out Lasso’s goal in the 80th minute and the two team split the points. Williams and Lasso are first and second in scoring on the Battery roster and have accounted for more than half of the team’s goals. Charleston have scored at least one goal in every match they’ve played this season, including preseason, Carolina Challenge Cup, and US Open Cup. The Battery and Real Monarchs SLC are the only two USL clubs to score a goal in every league match this season. Toronto Toronto FC II enter Saturday’s match in fourteenth place in the USL Eastern Conference. The match against the Battery is TFC II’s tenth on the road this season. TFC II have only scored five goals total and two on the road. Toronto picked up their third win of the season in their last match, defeating Orlando City B at home a week ago. Jordan Hamilton scored the game’s only goal, Angelo Cavalluzzo earned the shutout. Previous Meeting The Charleston Battery and Toronto FC II met twice during the 2016 season, the Battery won both matches. Romario Williams and Maikel Chang scored in Charleston’s 2-0 win at MUSC Health Stadium last season, Odisnel Cooper earned the clean sheet in goal.
