Vaughan – Toronto FC II opened up their 2017 home schedule with a 0-0 draw against
the Rochester Rhinos.

On a cold and windy night, both teams struggled to link together a sustained attack.
The best chances of the half came in quick succession for the Reds. Off a Tsubasa Endoh
free kick, defender Jelani Peters got the ball around the PK spot but his shot took
a deflection wide. Off the ensuing corner, Ben Spencer got up to the ball but his
header went just wide of the far post.

““I think maybe mentally before the game, but out of all the elements, I think the
wind had the biggest role. But all in all, it is April and it is Toronto,”
said head coach Jason Bent.

The wind died down in the second half, and both teams were able to create
more offence. Ben Spencer had a great opportunity to open the scoring early
in the second half, but Thomas Gomes stopped his rocket of a shot.

First team loanee Sergio Camargo provided a spark off the bench when he was subbed
on to begin the second half. “I hope so ... as a sub you want to come in and have
that spark... Unfortunately, disappointed to not have could score a goal or make
a play to score a goal,” added Camargo.

Reds’ keeper Angelo Cavallzzo earned his first clean sheet of the season and made
a couple of key stops late to keep the Rhinos off the board.

Toronto FC II returns to action on April 22nd when they travel to Ottawa to take
on the Fury in the first ever battle of Ontario in the USL.

JASON BENT – HEAD COACH, TORONTO FC II

What did you think about the result and how the team played?
“I think after a big road trip we got up and were very solid defensively and didn’t
give away too much until the end where Angelo came up big for us. We had our moments
to get a goal, but it wasn’t to be, they’re a very solid team and very rarely give
up any goals.”

How did the weather influence the game?
“I think maybe mentally before the game, but out of all the elements I think the
wind had the biggest role. But all in all, it is April and it is Toronto.”

How was Camargo when he came in the second half he looked to provide a jolt of energy.
“I’ve known him since he was in the academy so I know what he’s all about, he gave
us something different and brought a maturity to the game and could drive the
team forward. Fantastic for him to get 45 minutes under his belt coming off
an injury so I think these minutes will do him some good.”

ANGELO CAVALLUZZO – GOALKEEPER, TORONTO FC II
The weather tonight not ideal, how difficult is it as a goalkeeper to keep
yourself involved?
“Communication helps a lot, keep your mind off the cold.”
What was the message from the coaching staff to tighten up the defence here tonight?
“Focus really ... especially in transition, when we are attacking and lose the ball
and they counter us they can sometimes leave us exposed.”

SERGIO CAMARGO – MIDFIELDER, TORONTO FC II
What did you see from the team overall tonight?
“Higher tempo, that’s what we were lacking in the away games ... we came in with
the right mentality”
When you came in you provided a spark, did you feel that is how the game played out?
“I hope so ... as a sub you want to come in and have that spark... Unfortunately,
disappointed to not have could score a goal or make a play to score a goal.”
