Monday December 11, 2017 MLS Toronto FC Championship Parade (by Rocket Robin)
I attended the TFC Championship Parade held on two days notice although it may
have been planned for years. The city staff has had recent practice as the
football team (Toronto Argonauts) won their championship two weeks ago.
I decided to include more pictures of the lesser known players to be different
than so many other bloggers.
I followed from the assembly point to city hall and let the parade pass me by
twice as it would have lasted only ten minutes if there weren't delays
in detouring traffic.
The assembly area was at Maple Leaf Square so the Air Canada Centre is in the background.
That's the home of two other MLSE properties--hockey team Toronto Maple Leafs and
basketball team Toronto Raptors.
Some of the TFC Academy kids alongside this float. I asked and none were on this year's
League 1 Ontario (ie U-20 team). This float was used in the Santa Claus Parade a few
weeks ago.
The parade gets started. Supporter groups made up most of the marchers.
The players were spread out over two topless double decker buses. Bus 1 had more
of the coaching staff. I made sure to yell "Thanks for the coat" to TFC II coach
Jason Bent (on right side of picture, hand on railing) who gifted me a TFC parka
at the beginning of the season. I certainly needed it on a cold day like today.
The second bus held the silverware.
A clearer view.
Through the railway tunnel on York Street. Duck guys!
The other side of Bus 1.
Bus 2
The back of Bus 2.
Danny Dichio (tallest person) (early player hero and now the coach of TFC III--ie the U20 team)
held the banner at the front of the parade.
Dwayne DeRosario (pointing) (another early team hero) held the other side of the banner.
My obstructed view at city hall. Other bloggers have posted better pictures.
Toronto mayor John Tory thanks the team, fans, and even former mayor (two terms ago)
David Miller who was an early booster of getting an MLS team to the city.
Coach Greg Vanney.
Captain Michael Bradley was the only player to speak with TSN sports guy Kristian Jack
feeding him questions.
Ashton Morgan--the longest serving player--leaving the ceremony.
Nick Hagglund shows some love.
