FC Montreal ties 1-1 in Toronto June 15, 2016 3:43 PM EDT Press release TORONTO, Ontario – FC Montreal tied 1-1 against Toronto FC II on Wednesday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The Bleu-blanc-noir scored first in this game, when winger Alessandro Riggi crossed the ball from the left flank to the far post for forward Anthony Jackson-Hamel, who slid and extended his foot to poke the ball home. The duo threatened again a few minutes later. Riggi passed behind the Toronto backline for Jackson-Hamel, but goalkeeper Alex Bono came out of his goal to make the save. In the 77th minute, Raheem Edwards dribbled in the box before facing goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau who made the save. Toronto FC II was forced to play with 10 men from the 84th minute on, as Bubacarr Jobe hit a running Aron Mkungilwa in the face. Jobe got his second yellow card of the game and was sent off. In the 90th minute, Toronto took advantage of a free kick on the right wing to tie the game. Luca Uccello crossed at the far post for Liam Fraser, who scored on a header. In the last minutes of the game, midfielder Philippe Lincourt-Joseph’s low shot from outside of the box hit the right post. FC Montreal had to use two subs early in the game after Simon Lemire and Marco Dominguez both went down with injuries in the first half. “It wasn’t easy for us,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We were forced to change the system of play many times with the injuries in the first half. The players adjusted well. We dealt well with the emotions until they got their red card. We lost the game on the last nine minutes, not dealing well with the man advantage with bad choices that led to the foul and the goal. It’s a shame, because it puts a shade on the good things that we saw before.” “We started the game well,” said midfielder Mastanabal Kacher. “We put the foot on the ball and corrected what needed to be corrected. In the second half, we were more aggressive. We won duels high up the pitch, which helped us score a goal. We were not focused enough in the end. It’s not the first time, and we need to correct this as fast as possible because we just lost two points.” FC Montreal will play its next game on Saturday, June 18, at 7pm against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium.
