Toronto FC II Sign Brian James

Toronto FC II announced Thursday that the club has signed midfielder Brian James to a USL contract. 
As per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. He will be added to the 
roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and Canadian work permit.

“We are pleased to sign another SuperDraft selection to Toronto FC II and allow him to continue 
his development,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Brian has shown solid 
technical ability and a high work rate throughout the preseason with both the first team and 
Toronto FC II. We have no doubt Brian will be a welcomed addition to the team.”

James, 22, began preseason with the first team where he appeared in five matches. He joined 
Toronto FC II for the remainder of their preseason and made four appearances. He was selected 
in the fourth round, 80th overall by Toronto FC in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. James joins 
the Young Reds after he split time between the University of Virginia and Pennsylvania State 
University (Penn State). During his time with the Cavaliers, he appeared in 35 matches, 
registering four goals and two assists. In 2014, he transferred to Penn State and appeared 
in 38 matches, registering four goals and 10 assists with the Nittany Lions over the past 
two seasons.
