Consistency Key for Liam Fraser in 2016 March 3, 2016 12:59 PM EST Anthony Campos Preseason is well underway for the Young Reds as they prepare for their second season in the USL. Newly signed midfielder Liam Fraser is hoping to build off a successful first season with the lub in terms of his play. Fraser, while on loan from the Kia Toronto FC Academy, impressed in his time with TFC II, enough to earn a professional contract with the club. He’s used this preseason to work on one of his goals for the upcoming season: putting in more consistent performances. “I’m looking to play a more consistent role and performances in midfield. Consistency is key. They’re looking for an overall consistent performance this season. I’m just excited and looking forward to getting things started.” Fraser signed a professional contract with the club on February 10, making him the ninth player from the Kia TFC Academy to sign with TFC II. He played in a total of 10 matches last season while on loan from the Kia TFC Academy, providing Head Coach Jason Bent and his staff a closer look at his skillset. “Liam is a very smart footballer in terms of where to pick up space, his usage of the ball, his passing ability is of a very good level, especially over distance, but he can also play the short game as well,” said Bent. Fraser’s extensive experience with the Academy playing in League1 Ontario and the PDL, as well as assistance from the club and staff has helped him make a smooth transition up to the USL level. “The team has been very helpful and supportive in the transition from the Kia Toronto FC Academy. The main difference is the speed of play and now you’re playing against pros. The team has been encouraging, especially the veterans from last year.” Each season the veterans of the group are expected to have an important role in the development and adaptation of the young players on the squad. Following in the footsteps and learning from some of these players, in particular Chris Mannella, is something Fraser is expecting to benefit from. “Anyone who has the experience that Chris does is someone I want to learn from. It’s important for me to get information from him on what I can do better and the things he put into his game in order for him to make it to the next level,” he said. The future looks bright for the young midfielder and a full season with Toronto FC II is just the beginning.
