Sanjaxx Lions took their first points of the season after a 2-0 win over
Pro Stars FC. Forward Hilliard Serrao (25', 62') got a brace for the Lions,
while keeper Matt Zaikos kept the clean sheet.

"The boys took their chances today," said Sanjaxx head coach, Peter Mellon.
"We had a bit more progression."

"We went out with a game plan and they executed it very well. I was very
pleased by the overall result and the effort of the players as well."

With the brace, Serrao extended his goal scoring tally to three
in four matches, and the Lions demonstrated a keen sense for team
defensive principles to ensure Pro Stars couldn't find a way to net.

"We implemented a strategy and we stuck by it, we kept our discipline
and it paid off," said Mellon. "We keep it compact and solid,
and have been working on defensive technique and strategies,
working as a group, keeping all the different lines tight
and in play. Today it payed off."

Pro Stars kept the majority of possession, but could not find a way
through the lines to create offensive patterns and threaten
the Lions goal.

"I think we looked good in possession of the ball but struggled
to penetrate for sure," said Pro Stars head coach, Omar Jhabhi.
" At times we possessed just for sake of possession."

"As coaches we need to help the players realize when to possess
and when we can find openings going forward."

Pro Stars were punished for some errors in possession by Serrao
on the day, but Jhabhi said the experience will help the team
in the long run.

"We are learning that if we make mistakes we will be punished,
and we need to learn that when other teams make errors we need
to punish them," he said.

"It is hard enough to make chances, and when you make them you
have to finish them."

Pro Stars host Toronto FC Academy on June 4 (7 p.m.)
at Hershey Centre 2, Mississauga, while Sanjaxx also go
to Hershey Centre 1, Mississauga to play North Mississauga
on June 4 (8 p.m.).
