Attendance was about 75 on this mild night.

The game changed from the time DUFA went down a man and the resulting Penalty kick at only the 29 minute mark. Woodbridge has the best goals against in the league allowing only 15 in now 18 league games. It would have been tough to score on them even at full strength.

DUFA made many unforced errors. It's like they weren't used to the artificial turf at Oshawa Civic Field with them playing many balls too far forward or passing out of bounds. Most of their games are played on the natural grass of Kinsmen Park in Pickering and some at the indoor Pickering Soccer Centre which is a different texture of artificial turf.

Referee Vladimir Makarov gave out five cards in total that I counted—three Yellows to Strikers. He wasn't popular with the pro DUFA fans with them making sarcastic heckling and calls for hand ball on almost every play. The assistants called back an offside goal on each team in the second half.

Matt George and Nicholas Maffeo earned the shutout for Woodbridge with a few key saves. Maffeo entered the game at 85 minutes a few minutes after George was bumped by a DUFA player on the edge of the box and cries that a punch was thrown by each player.

Strikers Kareem Samuels was a defender but took some long runs upfield and made some great crosses. He had two assists but could have doubled that if Strikers forwards could have finished more of their chances.

Best non-scoring chances were at 36 minutes when WS Dylan Carreiro poked the ball away from a defender at 20 yards and a quick blast from the left had the sprawling goalie push wide right of the post from 5 yards. 68 minutes had Carreiro blast a 22 yard shot between players that the jumping goalie in the center of the net palmed the ball over the bar. Second half injury time had DUFA Jordan Dover take a 25 yard freekick from the right that deflected off a defender in the player wall and flew just wide right of the post.

The loss drops Durham's record to 10 wins, 6 losses and 2 ties for 32 points. They are third place in the eight team Eastern Conference.

The win improves the record of Woodbridge to 12 wins, 4 losses, 2 ties for 38 points and second place in the East. They are the closest team to catching first place Vaughan Azzurri who have 43 points in 18 games. All teams play 22 league games and the first place teams in each conference meet for the league championship.

Last week I was fooled into not recognizing Jonathan Osorio watching one of this brothers play a TFC II game because he was wearing a pair of sunglasses and had a new haircut. Tonight I took a chance and recognized Jens Kraemer (same hair style as his playing days in the late 1980s with North York Rockets of the Canadian Soccer League). We had a good chat about his career and my pre-internet days watching games.
