Final Score:......Sigma FC.......3......Kingston Clippers.......1...........

Attendance climbed to about 75 on this very hot and humid day with one water break being called in each half.

Sigma started off the game with possession domination but they couldn't pull away and with them not opening a three goal lead at the beginning of the second half with their missed Penalty kick and then Kingston scoring at 75 minutes, it made the ending tense.

Referee Jason Olinski gave out only two Yellow cards that I counted (both to Sigma) in a game that wasn't too rough. He added eight minutes to the first half for the water break plus a long interlude for a hand injury to the Clippers goalie.

Best non-scoring chances were at 32 minutes when Sigma Duran Lee ran down the left and rolled a pass from 20 yards into the 6 yard box and Sigma Leaford Allen booted a 6 yarder on the right post well over the net. 49 minutes had Sigma Chris Nanco's low cross from 25 yards on right get through box and Allen again missed a clear chance. 54 minutes had Faisal Ghaffur chip a pass up the middle that found Allen on the left and he deked the goalie at 8 yards but turned back when defenders clogged his path to goal and he was checked off the ball. 80 minutes had Sigma Kwame Awuah's shot from 20 yards had the goalie stop at 8 yards then Sigma Mark Wadid shot the 10 yard rebound on the left over the open net.

Clippers had some players who could bomb in long throw-ins into the box that were as dangerous as the few cornerkicks and freekicks that they earned.

Leaford Allen of Sigma is the league's leading scorer with 9 goals but he couldn't increase his lead today despite having a few sitters. I remember him last year playing for Pro Stars FC and one game in particular when he was called offside at least six times and he answered me that he played in the Sigma system when he was younger and wanted to play for the best team available. (a similar answer to why all the three Mills brothers moved to Vaughan Azzurri this year after ANB Futbol decided not to return to the league this season). Allen was subbed out at 59 minutes.

Sigma's record improves to a perfect 9 wins, 0 losses, 0 ties for 27 points and first place in the Western Conference. I asked after head coach Bobby Smyrniotis after the game how long he can keep this lineup together before players start returning to NCAA schools. He said they have their lineup together until August 1st. July 30th is the final of the League 1 Ontario Cup but they were put out of the tournament in the first round in Penalty kicks by Master's FA Saints. They currently hold a six point lead in the West but I'd expect a league final in October against the winner of the East and by then the team will be using their high schoolers.

Clippers record falls to 4 wins, 2 losses, 3 ties for 15 points and fourth place* in the East (*based on me not having today's other scores yet).

My day wasn't over as I stayed where I was and watched the North Mississauga Panthers vs Vaughan Azzurri game two hours later on the same field.
