Match Preview: TFC II vs. Charlotte Independence TFC II begin 4-game road swing to close out the season vs. Charlotte September 8, 2015 Anthony Campos torontofc.ca Toronto FC II will finish off their inaugural USL season on a four-game road swing starting against the Charlotte Independence on Wednesday. The young Reds are coming off an impressive 3-2 victory over rivals FC Montreal this past weekend. Forward Reshon Phillip had a brace in his first start for the club since being called up from the Kia Toronto FC Academy on August 27th. The team will look to play spoiler against a Charlotte team that is deep in the playoff race with a handful of matches remaining in the regular season. “We are hoping to put back-to-back performances in and get another three points [against Charlotte],” said Head Coach Jason Bent following the win on Saturday. “We want to finish the season on a high but also it allows us to take a look at some young players and test them in [the USL] environment,” he added. TFC II holds a record of 6-14-4 – 11th in the East – and is only three points behind rivals FC Montreal for 10th with two games in hand. The Opposition The Independence is coming off a 2-2 draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads that saw Jorge Herrera convert from the spot in stoppage time to secure the tie. Charlotte is on an 11-game unbeaten streak and currently holds the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 37 points. With three matches left in the season, each game holds extreme importance for Charlotte as a mere five points separates fourth and eighth in the East. A win would put the team tied with the Charleston Battery for fourth in the East. On the other hand, a loss would leave the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Harrisburg City Islanders one and two points behind them with a game in hand. The preview meeting between the two clubs ended in a 2-2 draw back on August 30th. TFC II takes on the Charlotte Independence this Wednesday, September 9th at Ramblewood Soccer Stadium in Charlotte at 7:00PM ET.
