A two-goal performance by Reshon Phillip and Skylar Thomas’ second goal of the season
gave Toronto FC II a 3-2 victory over rivals FC Montreal
at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Saturday.

With the win TFC II splits the season series with FC Montreal at two wins apiece and
improve their record to 6-14-4.

It was a disastrous start to say the least for TFC II in their final home match
of the season.

10 seconds in defender Wesley Charpie made an erroneous back pass that resulted
in the opening goal for FC Montreal.

Charpie over hit the back pass to goalkeeper Phil Di Bennardo and all Di Bennardo
could do is watch the ball sail over his head and bounce
into the back of the net.

TFC II was able to bounced back from the early own goal quickly as they equalized
three minutes later.

Reshon Phillip scored his first professional goal for TFC II in his first start
for the club since being called up from the Toronto FC Academy on August 27th.

Phillip was in alone and calmly side-footed a low shot past FC Montreal
goalkeeper Yann-Alexandre Fillion to level things up.

From then on it was a dominating first half performance by the young Reds,
maintaining most of the possession and creating majority of the chances.

In the 23rd minute Mo Babouli was sent in alone by Bubacarr Jobe but Fillion
came off his line and made a huge save to keep the match tied.

TFC II took the lead in the 28th minute through Skylar Thomas.

Thomas, wearing the captain’s armband for the match with Chris Mannella
absent, towered over the FC Montreal defense and headered home
Anthony Osorio’s cross to give his team the lead.

Thomas nearly had his second of the match near the end of the first
half but his header off a corner hit the wrong side of the post.

TFC II came out strong in the second half and extended their lead
five minutes in.

Phillip’s volley from just inside the box was deflected in by a Montreal
defender for TFC II’s third of the match.

FC Montreal pushed the attack towards the end and managed to pull
one back in the 87th minute.

Fredric Lajoie-Gravelle was on the receiving end of a through ball
into the box and was able to round Di Bennardo before slotting it home.

TFC II managed to hold out for the last few minutes of the match
to secure a 3-2 victory.
