May 21, 2015 Toronto FC II--Q & A with Wesley Charpie (from torontofc.ca)
Getting to know Wesley Charpie TFC II defender on the big debate: Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts? May 21, 2015 Anthony Campos torontofc.ca We sat down with the Florida native for a Q&A session, shedding light on the type of player he is, how he prepares for a match, and what he likes most about the city of Toronto. Q: Describe yourself on the pitch vs. off the pitch? On the pitch I would say I’m a passionate player, you got to play this game with passion. I like to go out there and try to be vocal and somewhat be a leader on the field and work my craft to the best I can. Off the pitch I think if you ask the guys in the locker room I’m a bit of a jokester. I like to have fun, have a good time. That’s basically what I’m known for. Q: What are some things you like to do on your downtime? Usually I like to be on a boat and all that but my downtime now consists of a little bit of video games, a little bit of FIFA, definitely a lot of reading, I like to read a lot, and also becoming a very good cook. Q: What team do you play with on FIFA? My team on FIFA is Barcelona. I try to get Messi isolated. I give him the ball any way that I can and dribble inside on his left foot. Game over. Just ask Skylar Thomas [his TFC II teammate] about that [laughs]. Q: Favourite soccer team? Manchester United. Q: What do you like most about Toronto with your time being here so far? I love how diverse Toronto is. It’s so multicultural just going into the city is a good time. I just love walking around King and Queen Street and I also like Liberty Village a lot. Q: What do you like to do on game day to prepare yourself for the match? Somewhere around midday I like going to a gym whether it’s at my house or if we’re on the road I’ll use the gym at the hotel and just foam roll, stretch, and visualize the game. It puts me at ease and relaxes my mind. Q: What player plays a similar style of soccer as you? Someone like Dani Alves. If you look at him he likes to get forward a lot, he’s technical at his feet as an outside back, and he’s also good defensively. That’s someone I like to staple my game after. Q: What is one of your greatest soccer achievements? One of my greatest soccer achievements has to be in my freshman year of college. I scored the game winner in overtime to put us through to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA finals and that was just a good moment. I remember that very vividly. Q: Favourite player? I don’t necessarily have a favourite soccer player. I mean, I’ve always loved guys like Zinedine Zidane just because he was a master at his craft and he’s a brilliant football player. I can appreciate any world-class player, someone like Iniesta or Thierry Henry in his prime, those kinds of guys. Q: If you weren’t playing professional soccer what would you be doing? I would probably own some kind of dive shop or be near the water, something to do with boats. That’s basically the only alternative route I can see myself in at this moment. Q: Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts? Tim Hortons! [laughs].
