May 16, 2015 Toronto FC II--match review of Louisville City FC vs Toronto FC II (from torontofc.ca)
TFC II’s defense struggles in Louisville Baby Reds concludes 8 game road trip to start the season. May 16, 2015 Anthony Campon torontofc.ca A brace from Matt Fondy and goals from Kadeem Dacres and Conor Shanosky propelled Louisville City FC to a 4-0 victory against your Reds in front of 6,090 fans at Louisville Slugger Field. With the loss TFC II falls to a record of 2-5-1. Forgettable First Half Your Reds had a forgettable first half in Louisville, as the opposition was able to score three goals in the first 45 minutes of the match. Louisville City FC played a high-pressure approach right off the start, giving TFC II defenders little time on the ball and disrupting any TFC II attempt of maintaining possession and controlling the game. The team struggled in the back in particular, looking disorganized on many occasions, including on the third goal. The defenders were slow to close down LCFC midfielder Kadeem Dacres, who was able to pick out an unmarked Conor Sanosky in the box who headed home the team’s third goal of the match. Little Offense Created TFC II found it difficult to muster up any sort of attack against a well-organized defense in Louisville City. TFC II’s best opportunity in the entire match came off the boot of captain Chris Mannella in the 50th minute. A loose ball fell into the path of Mannella who unleashed a right-footed shot just outside the box that rung the LCFC crossbar. Changes in the Lineup There were a total of 5 changes from the lineup that won against St. Louis on Thursday. TFC II coach Jason Bent called Godinho, Nunes, Osorio, Ononye, and Vukovic into the starting 11 to face off against LCFC. Fatigue might have been a concern for coach Bent going into the match as TFC II had played just two days earlier. Charpie, Bouchard, Kaye, Edwards, and Rivas, all starters in the St. Louis match, found themselves on the bench to start the game against LCFC. For Godinho, Osorio, Ononye, and Vukovic, this was their first start of the season. The inexperience playing together was evident in the struggle to stay organized and contain the Louisville City counter attack, predominantly on the wings where Louisville City found loads of space to attack. For a young squad like your Reds this will be taken as another learning experience. The team is coming off a lengthy 8 game road trip and will continue to build team chemistry as the season goes on. Just Hold On We’re Coming Home This match concludes TFC II’s 8 game road trip to start the season. Your Reds will look forward to playing in front of home fans against the Rochester Rhinos on May 23rd at BMO Field.
