Getting to know Mark-Anthony Kaye Kaye shares his taste in movies and growing up with Jay Chapman April 28, 2015 Kamal Hylton torontofc.ca This week our Toronto FC II Q & A is with Canadian forward Mark-Anthony Kaye. The former York University Lion shares his taste in movies, growing up with teammate Jay Chapman and his ultimate dream. Q: Describe yourself as the player on the pitch vs. the person off the pitch? Kaye: As a player on the pitch, I like to be on the ball a lot. I’ve grown up being an attacking player all my life, so whenever I get the chance to go forward I feel like I’m at my best and strongest. That said, as I’ve grown and come closer and closer to the next level, I’ve realized I need to be a more well rounded player which includes working on my defensive ability. The difference between me on and off the field… I pretty much act the exact same way. My personality is very outgoing, I love to be in contact with people and it helps on the field being very vocal. Q: Other than playing soccer, what’s the one thing you really like to do to relax? Kaye: I like to listen to music a lot. I feel like music always relaxes me, especially when soccer is very stressful or very taxing on your body it’s always nice to sit back and listen to some nice music. I’ve gone through a lot of phases, switching from one genre to the next as every kid does. Right now, I’m mostly into Top 40… anything that gets you up beat and into a good vibe. Q: What is your favourite movie? Kaye: I’d say my favourite movie is one that just recently came out called ‘Interstellar’. It’s a very confusing and eye opening movie, but I definitely like those types of movies that ask a lot of questions. Q: If there was a movie of your life, who would you like to play yourself? Kaye: Ummm…. that’s a tough question? To be honest I don’t know. I’d like to say someone like Kevin Hart because he’s pretty funny, but I feel like he would make my life more of a joke than it really is. Q: What is your first soccer memory? Kaye: I don’t know… I started playing soccer when I was 10 years old, so I guess my first soccer memory was finally getting that jersey, playing rep soccer and just getting on the field. Q: What is your favourite soccer memory? Kaye: My favourite soccer memory would be scoring my first professional goal when I was on loan with Wilmington Hammerheads last season, it was against LA Galaxy II. I remember the fans where yelling and it was a really good feeling. Q: Who’s your best friend on TFC II? Kaye: My best friend on the team would be Jay Chapman. We grew up together in Ajax together when we were younger, so we’ve known each other for 5-6 years now. It’s feels good to catch up with a friend again, we took different paths but have ended up at the same club. Q: What’s your ultimate dream? Kaye: My ultimate dream is to continue to play soccer at the highest level possible. To play for the Canadian national team one day would be an awesome honour as well. Really, to play for my national team and strive for the highest level is my main goal. Q: If you could speak to TFC fans, what would you want them to know about you? Kaye: I’m ready to work! I’m ready to stand up for my city, to play for my city and that we’ll keep fighting for them while they support keep supporting us.
