Toronto FC II prepares for season opener TFC II heads down to South Carolina March 19, 2015 Devang Desai torontofc.ca Toronto FC II embarks on a new journey this weekend. The USL franchise opens their 2015 campaign in Charleston, South Carolina against the Battery. For some players the entire experience, from travelling to taking the field in a professional game, will be an entirely new endeavor. For others, it won’t be anything new. “Most of the players can deal with it pretty well,” said Mark-Anthony Kaye. “For me, I was at Wilmington last year. I had seven road games for the month and a half that I was there.” Kaye knows what the travel schedule is like in USL. He also has some advice for the players making their first trip. “Stay fit, stay focused all the time. Drink a lot of water and stay hydrated because it isn’t like anything before. It’s a very difficult league.” “For some guys it’s going to be something new,” said defender Clement Simonin. The left footed centre-back is one of the older players on the team and sees himself as a leader. “It’s my position first of all. My age and experience at different levels in Europe, France and at college in America. I have to lead by example.” The Battery have made the postseason in four consecutive years and will provide a stern test for the Junior Reads “We’ve done a couple video sessions,” Kaye stated. “We know what they’re capable of.” The team is expected to announce their final roster additions on Friday morning. Jay Chapman and another member of the first team will be travelling to Charleston. TFC II is also expected to name their captain on Friday. Check back here tomorrow for roster announcement and a full preview of Saturday night’s game. The match will be streamed on YouTube at 7:30 PM ET.
