Halftime entertainment: There's a pizza slice giveaway, drumstick ice cream giveaway as usual. What was different is Pizza Pizza had a contestant kick ball a ball through increasingly smaller holes in a cutout attached to the goal for more valuable prizes. The man missed the big holes for one slice, one pizza etc to go 0 for 3 but hit the smallest hole to win 'Pizza for a year' although it looked like one of the attendants tipped the ball into the hole.
Also three members of the five piece band from Burlington Ontario 'Walk Off The Earth' were introduced. They said the female vocalist Sarah was going to have a baby in four days and that's why she wasn't there. Their big hit right now is 'Rule The World' and it gets played each week on the playlist before the game.

Attendance was announced as 25032 on this hot and humid late afternoon with a bright sun in the west.
Philadelphia had climbed to within two points of TFC before today's game after starting with one win in eleven games. They had played three more games than TFC. Union put on 2007 TFC player Conor Casey and he did score on Toronto as he has over the years for the different teams he's played for. He also had an injury time header wide left with his back to goalie.
The PanAm games are on and I could hear the cheers for beach volleyball from a pop up stadium before we were allowed into BMO Field. I took the Ossington bus to get away from here. It took me half an hour to get through the underpass of the train tracks with the rest of the crowd using that was out. It felt like the kettling as the hallways and fencing got narrower and narrower. There was no way I could get to the Toronto FC II game taking place in Vaughan by 8:00pm. [Later reports had Jonathan Osorio up at that game being photographed with his younger brothers who are on that team--he must have had a police escort or not got up there until the second half for their game against Saint Louis].
With Chris Konopka suspended, was that why Alex Bono was the backup as there was not much chance he'd play. I expect Quillan Roberts would start for TFC II returning as a backup from Canada's national team at the Gold Cup.
This wasn't even the only game at BMO today! An international friendly between Paris St Germaine of France and Benfica of Portugal was scheduled to start at 8:00pm. I saw some club crowd overlap with a handful of fans at the TFC game wearing PSG shirts but I'd be interested in hearing what the attendance was. Of course TFC has their own problems filling a friendly on Tuesday night when they host Sunderland. I saw a tweet that a pair of tickets were free if you bought a large pizza from one of the team sponsors.
Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was named as Sebastian Giovinco. I'll agree because he scored a goal and had an assist. He also had a few other shots off target. Although it was no three goals in nine minutes like last week in New York against NYCFC, the team scored two goals in three minutes that turned the game around. It gave TFC some room to breath and it was needed at the end although they never looked to be hanging on. Union had a goal called back at 58 minutes for offside but that doesn't always happen.
Jozy Altidore had been released by the US Gold Cup team although they are in the quarterfinals against Cuba without him. He's recovering from a hamstring injury and had not been playing a full 90 minutes.
