1st Half:...game starts 5:08pm.

I could not make notes in this hard rain.

Halftime entertainment: Even though it was raining there was a Tim Horton's mini game 5 v 6 between boys from the Etobicoke Youth Soccer League with the kids running and slipping on the wet grass. There were the same lucky draws and prizes as their other games.

Final Score:.....Toronto FC.......0..........D.C. United...........0........

Attendance was announced as 16382. That low number is not a surprise as it had rained all day and all throughout the game which would kill the walk up crowd. It looked like much of the season ticket holders didn't show up neither as it didn't look like there were 16000 here today.

Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was announced as midfielder Collen Warner.

Both teams had chances but TFC always looked like the most dangerous side. TFC's big three of Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, and Sebastian Giovinco looked the most threatening. Bradley was all over the field even coming back into defence. Altidore played the first 71 minutes today--that's six minutes longer than Wednesday's game against Montreal as he continues to recover from his hamstring injury. I was surprized by how few times TFC put the ball out of bounds on long passes as the ball seemed to slow down or stop rather than bounce out of play.

TFC Sebastian Giovinco showed he was human with a few off target shots and a freekick into the player wall and fumbling the ball away along with his many good moments.

DCU Luis Silva had one of the most dangerous chances with a shot that Konopka had to fly left to push the ball wide of the post. There was an injury time bicycle kick that Konopka had to palm the ball over the bar and then crash into the post that shook him up.

Bill Hamid earned the shutout for DCU with a few huge saves.

The pre-game hype put a lot of importance on winning this game before four regulars leave for the Gold Cup. Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore will play for the USA and Jonathan Osorio and Ashtone Morgan will line up for Canada. Third string goalie Quilan Roberts will also be on the Canadian team.

TFC's next home game is July 18th against Philadelphia Union and then the 22nd is the Sunderland friendly as the only games in Toronto as the schedule see's them out of town while the Pan Am games are on. Many players of TFC II are on the roster of the Canadian team playing in the Pan Am's in Hamilton. I'm glad they're away for awhile as three games in one week were a bit much.

I did not stay for the TFC II game held here one hour after today's MLS game. They were playing Wilmington Hammerheads who were their affiliate in the USL Pro last year although only four players ever were exchanged between the teams. This year the Hammerheads have an afiliation with New York City FC and wear sky blue coloured uniforms.

TFC's record improves to 7 wins, 6 losses, 2 ties for 23 points. DC United's record improves to 10 wins, 5 losses, 5 ties for 35 points and comfortably in first place although TFC have enough games in hand to catch them.

It rained the day pre-game, the whole game, and post-game and by then a cold wind started to blow. The strength of the rain was between hard and harder in intensity. I should have brought a wearable clear garbage bag as no umbrellas are allowed inside the stadium. I was soaked including inside my boots. I was soaked. I couldn't make notes--which is me writing into a book as the paper was too wet. I didn't open the case on my binoculars as I had a pair ruined in a game against Columbus. I couldn't wipe my camera lens as everything in my pockets was wet. Next year they'll be a canopy over the seats of the stadium although I'm sure rain could soak me again if it comes at a certain angle.

On the way here I could not catch the Harbourfront streetcar to get here as later I found out there'd been an accident. I got back on the subway for one stop and took the King streetcar almost to where I wanted before it was announced that the streetcar would detour because of construction so I got off and walked about a mile and a half to get onto the grounds getting wetter every step. I hid under the stands until after the warmup but I couldn't avoid the downpour or I'd miss the game. My row never filled in more than 2/3s. The south side stands of hardcore supporters eventually filled to about 80%. Waiting around for the TFC II game to start although I decided not to stay with no slowdown in the rain, I had a quiet ride home on the streetcar as the crowds had already left.
