September 13, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Woodbridge Strikers vs Sanjaxx Lions (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Woodbridge Strikers 3 - Sanjaxx Lions 0 . Mon Sep 14 Written By: Staff, League1 Woodbridge's league leading defence held strong again in their 3-0 defeat of Sanjaxx Lions. "Tonight we played very good football," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "We dominated the game with good ball possession and created again many scoring chances, but once again missed six to eight great opportunities, and the game finished very respectable because of Sanjaxx goalkeeper Tayjon Campbell - he was the best player on the field making many big saves including a penalty shot." Captain Christian Cavallini (23', 90 + 1') scored a brace, while centre-forward Joseph Jackson (28') scored one en route to the win. Strikers' goalkeeper Matt George posted yet another clean sheet. "I thought Chistian Cavallini was our best player on the field, scoring two goals on the night and could have scored a few more goals, creating many scoring chances for himself as well for his teammates," said Pinizzotto. "Turning point was again scoring that first goal, but I was very happy to see the team moving the ball so well throughout the game and not giving Sanjaxx any chances to get in the game." Strikers remain in the hunt for the League1 Ontario championship, but with Oakville Blue Devils holding a commanding 12 point lead it will require an exceptional combination of losses for Oakville and an unblemished final runout to the season by the Strikers. Woodbridge plays Pro Stars on Sunday September 20 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge - 7 p.m. kickoff. Sanjaxx has the weekend off and plays Kingston Clippers on Saturday September 26 at Monarch Park, Toronto - 6 p.m. kickoff.
