September 13, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Oakville Blue Devils vs ANB Futbol (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Oakville Blue Devils 2 - ANB Futbol 1 . Mon Sep 14 Written By: Staff, League1 In their last home match for 2015, Oakville inched one step closer to clinching the men's 2015 League1 Ontario title this past weekend at Sheridan College, Oakville after they secured a tough 2-1 victory over King City's ANB Futbol. "The key moment in this match was Oakville scoring the tying goal about midway through the second half from a goal-mouth scramble," said ANB assistant coach, Marcelo Almeida. "ANB momentum was lost somewhat and the team could not recover to find the go-ahead goal." "Additionally, ANB had issues with clearing balls dropping in the eighteen yard box, especially in the second half after the red card to one of the team's key centre mid-fielders." ANB's Blake Jones (25') put the visitors up within the half hour, before prolific scorer - and now 2015 men's Golden Boot leader - Felipe Vilela (56') gave the home side the lead. Tyler Wason (75') ensured the Devils wouldn't be caught with his late-stage winner. "On a very wet day at Sheridan College our 2-1 win over ANB had a little of everything for the watching Toronto Lynx Academy," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde. "A human tunnel to welcome both teams; an opening goal for the second time this season against us from former Lynx captain Blake Jones; a very high-paced game, a penalty kick goal, a red card and a wonderful winning goal late in the game from Tyler Wason." Now with 49 points from 19 matches of a 22 match season, the Blue Devils have mathematics on their side to win the League1 Ontario 2015 title in the first season. The two closest teams in the standings - Woodbridge Strikers and Sigma F.C. - are both on 37 points, and have matches in hand on the leaders, but although Woodbridge has two matches in hand, and Sigma one, it would take an unlikely drop in Oakville's exceptional form for the side to lose their lead at this late stage. "We are intent on maintaining our focus and taking things one game at a time," said Wilde. "It has been a very long season and our planning and preparations have been good so far. We'll now beging thinking about the visit to Sigma F.C. on Saturday evening." Oakville plays Sigma F.C. on Saturday September 19 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga - 8 p.m. kickoff. ANB plays Toronto FC Academy on Sunday September 20 at Kia Training Ground, Toronto - 1:45 p.m. kickoff.
