September 6, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Woodbridge Strikers vs Kingston Clippers (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Woodbridge Strikers 1 - Kingston Clippers 0 . Tue Sep 8 Written By: Staff, League1 It took until the 79th minute, but Woodbridge finally found a way through Kingston Clippers deep and well-organized defensive lines courtesy of re-positioned left back Darian Bygrave. "Once again we played against a team that was sitting back deep in their own half and hoping to catch us off balance and counter," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "We had a high percentage of possession and created many scoring chances but once again we missed too many easy goals and got a late break with a goal from our best player on the field, #16 Darian Bygrave." "I thought the turning point in the game was putting Darian from left back to right midfield; the move seem to work as he scored the winner." Kingston's game plan was clearly to stare down their hosts, waiting as long as it would take for the Strikers to open up space for a counterattack. "Woodbridge scoring meant we were forced to change our playing style," explained Clippers Technical Director, Chris Eveleigh. "Ironically, if they had scored earlier we may have been forced to make changes earlier and could have had enough time to get the equalizer." Kingston also appeared to have a team heavy on youth products, and short on their senior regulars. Technical director Chris Eveleigh confirmed the Clippers were working on bringing through some new faces. "We were short on senior player's availability," he said. "This was, however, a blessing in disguise. We fielded a very young team, and the four players that came off the bench all performed very well." "With Joel Zelt, Adrian Soyic, Branden Raymond, Andrew Whiteman, Rafa Rodriquez, Santiago Rivera, Henry Standage, Damon Matos and Grant Cole all coming through the Clippers development system that myself, head coach Christian Hoefler, and new staff member Paul Quinnell are creating," he added, "it won't take long for mindsets to change and a steady flow of players coming out of Kingston." Kingston is back on the road for a Saturday September 12 fixture vs. Pro Stars F.C. at Victoria Park Stadium, Brampton, 7 p.m. kickoff. With the win, Woodbridge has put itself in a very good position in the league table leading into the final set of matches in this 22 match league season. On 34 points, level with Sigma but holding a game in hand, Woodbridge currently occupies fourth position. However, Woodbridge holds two or more games in hand on teams above them, with third place ANB on 36 points in 18 matches, second place Vaughan on 39 points from 19 matches, and leaders Oakville on 46 points from 18 matches. Watch Woodbridge this Sunday September 13 vs. Sanjaxx at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge, 7 p.m. kickoff.
