August 22, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Master's FA Saints vs Woodbridge Strikers (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Master's FA Saints 0 - Woodbridge Strikers 3 . Sun Aug 23 Written By: Staff, League1 Gabriel Sosa (12'), Emmanuel Esho (56') and Joseph Jackson (51') scored the goals, while Matt George kept them out, en route to a another deserved clean sheet, and a 3-1 win, for Woodbridge Strikers. "The most positive part of the game was that we got the three points and did not give up any goals," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "The score could have been much higher if we would have finished on all the chances we had during the game. I don't think anyone really had a great game from both sides. The best part of our game was that we had good ball possession throughout the game and never give Masters any scoring opportunities." Masters continues to bring through players from their youth ranks, preparing a roster for 2016 season by giving valuable late season experience to the squad. "It was youth verses experience but our youth are getting used to the league," said Masters owner/ operator Junior Groves. "Woodbridge scored off an early free kick that put us behind early in the game. Woodbridge possessed the ball very well today and the better team won." "However our youth are progressively getting better as they get more comfortable with the pace of play, and this is great experience for them for next year." Groves selected four individuals, two from each team, to showcase as MVPs. "For us, Darnell Peterkin, who as a 1998 player was very stable in defence and very aggressive in attack," he said. "And Mike Valenti, who played a leadership role today and was very strong in the centre back position." "For Woodbridge, I think Joseph Jackson was a very hard worker and gave us some problems with his movement on the field, while goalkeeper Matt George controlled his defense effectively and when called upon to make the saves he made them." Woodbridge Strikers play Pro Stars F.C. on Saturday August 29 at Victoria Park Stadium, Brampton - 7 p.m. kickoff. In a gala day marking the official opening of the new Ontario Soccer Centre, Vaughan, Masters travels on Sunday August 30 to face Toronto FC Academy - 11 a.m. kickoff.
