August 3, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Kingston Clippers vs Windsor Stars (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Kingston Clippers 3 - Windsor Stars 1 . Tue Aug 4 Written By: Staff, League1 After a very tight first half, Kingston Clippers took a well-earned three points from their 3-1 matchweek 14 home win over Windsor Stars after second-half tallies from Tony El-Asmar (54') and Ryan McCurdy (87'). Jeremy Arnold (8') opened the scoring for Clippers, while Martin Nyul (9') registered a lone strike for the Stars. Highlights from the match are below. "Martin Nyul has great technical ability and was a key factor in Windsor's midfield as well as their lone goal," said Kingston head coach, Christian Hoefler. "Our MVPs were Jeremy Arnold, who has an abundance of ability for such a young talent," he added. "Jeremy opened the scoring with a precise timed run and cool finish past the Windsor Keeper. A very dynamic player that was heavily involved with our attack the entire match. "Also, Toni El-Asmar. This was Toni's best performance all year. Toni battled a stomach illness this entire weekend and was determined to ensure our side collected a victory this match. Toni had created many goal scoring opportunities and added a goal of his own with a masterful strike to the top right corner of the net." Kingston's net-minder, Max Materne, also did his part, stopping a Windsor penalty and inspiring the Clippers to a satisfying home win. "We have been plagued with injuries for the past few months and brought in an extremely youthful side this match," said Hoefler. "Building the chemistry between the players was thought to have been a challenge at first; however the young talent and spirit eventually fit in well." "Max Materne making a penalty kick save as well as another point blank shot stop during the first half elevated our game and belief in gaining the three points." Windsor Stars have a break over matchweek 15, but Kingston Clippers will be back at it, heading down to the Kia Training Grounds on Sunday August 9 for a 1:45 p.m. kickoff vs. Toronto FC Academy.
