August 1, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Sigma FC vs ANB Futbol (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Sigma FC 4 - ANB Futbol 2 . Mon Aug 3 Written By: Staff, League1 Sigma F.C. triumphed 4-2 over ANB Futbol in matchweek 14, but head coach Bobby Smyrniotis was not at all pleased with the performance - especially ahead of a Tuesday night date with ANB in the semi-finals of the 2015 L1 Cup. "This was probably our poorest overall performance of the season from what our identity as a team is on the field," said Smyrniotis. "Apart from three top class goals in the first half, our group lacked movement off the ball and general energy." "On the worst performance of the season, playing a good side in ANB, we can only be happy about the three points gained, and we look to forget the rest of the match as sometimes in a season a team can come out flat for a variety of reasons." "We face ANB on Tuesday night in L1Cup semi-final, and we will obviously look for a much better product on the field from our team - but the win will be most important," he added. "Our guys take confidence from our 4-2 win as they understood the overall performance was not up to standard but the win came in the end." Kwame Awuah (13'), Richmond Laryea (21'), Alex Halis (44') and Jordan Stoddart (14') all chipped in for Sigma, but Sigma may not be able to avail of their services for much longer. "Tuesday will be the final game for many of our University-bound players," confirmed Smyrniotis. "Going forward, the integration of some of our younger players will become evident as we look to continue our good form of results in Juy into August." ANB's goalscorers were Belrum Vartanian (53') and Adonijah Reid (87'). Reid's goal took him to the top of the League1 golden boot race, with 14 goals to his name, while Smyrniotis selected Vartanian as the ANB MVP. "I thought he did a very good job to help his team get back into the game in the second half," he said. "His second 45 minutes was very good, and he was a focal point to their attack, scoring their first goal." Sigma and ANB refresh the contest on Tuesday August 4th at the Hershey Centre, Mississauga, in the semi-finals of the 2015 L1 Cup - 9 p.m. kickoff.
