June 27, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Sanjaxx Lions vs Woodbridge Strikers (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Sanjaxx Lions 0 - Woodbridge Strikers 3 . Sun Jun 28 Written By: Staff, League1 Woodbridge continues to quietly impress of late, climbing into fourth place in the League1 Ontario standings with a 3-0 win away to Sanjaxx, and holding a game in hand on the teams above them in the table. The Strikers hold a record of five wins, one draw, and one loss in their last seven matches of league and L1 cup action. Ignazio Muccilli (10') got the Strikers off the to an early start, while teammates Adrian Gallo (14') and Christian Cavallini (64') made sure of the result for the Woodbridge side. "I thought we had great start to the game by scoring two quick goals," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "But after the two goals Sanjaxx started defending much better and we had a hard time getting behind their back four. In the second half we started to move the ball well and we started creating more chances, but we were not sharp in finishing, also the weather did not help as it was very difficult to control the ball due to wet surface and the windy conditions." Sanjaxx was not without chances though, and it was these missed opportunities that head coach Laza Lowe chose to focus upon. "Defining moments were those moments when we failed to score after creating numerous chances," he said. "Our team played well, but we will work on finishing. For Woodbridge, their MVP was the GK Matt George." "[I'm] happy with the result considering all the injuries we have on the team," said Pinizzotto. "Also great to see the team did not give up any goals; I thought our centre back Cam [Brooks] had a solid game, winning many balls in the air and also did a great job on starting the play from the back. I know Sanjaxx has had a difficult start, but I will give the players a lot of credit for working very hard throughout the game." Sanjaxx is currently 11th in the League1 Ontario men's table, and faces a tough road trip to Mississauga's Hershey Centre in matchweek ten to meet fifth place Sigma F.C., 4 p.m. kickoff. Woodbridge gets a chance for rest next weekend, returning to play on Saturday July 11th at Tindall Field (Queens University, Kingston) to face Kingston Clippers, 7 p.m. kickoff.
