May 30,2015 League 1 Ontario--Master's FA Saints vs Sanjaxx Lions (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Master's FA Saints 1 - Sanjaxx Lions 2 . Sun May 31 Written By: Staff, League1 Veteran striker Nordo Gooden scored two goals from the penalty spot at a cold and wet L'Amoreaux Park to lead Sanjaxx Lions to the their first ever League1 Ontario win on Saturday evening, downing hosts Master's FA Saints by a score of 2-1. "Gooden was relentless in his pursuit of the ball up front," said Master's Technical Director Junior Groves. "He played tough, and also scored two penalties." MFA jumped out to the lead in the 11th minute thanks to a Sam Gardner goal. However, Lions were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute, which Gooden converted for first goal of the day. In the 44th minute, another penalty went against Master's, with MFA's Jude Alanwoko receiving a caution for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Once again, Gooden converted expertly to give his side the halftime lead. To make matters worse for the hosts, Alanwoko would receive a second caution in early in the second half, forcing Master's to attempt a comeback with only ten men. "It is very difficult to get any type of result when you get two penalties called against you, and a red card," said Junior Groves. "It allowed Sanjaxx back in the game. We had to play most of the second half with ten men and almost tied the game." Groves pointed to a growing injury list as a current challenge for Master's, but indicated that a positive aspect has been the opportunity to play some of the best prospects coming up through their academy. "[We will] continue doing what we are doing on the training ground, as new players come in to replace injured and suspended players. They will have to adjust to each other," said Groves. "We have some young players stepping in that are doing well. We featured Christian Inchima (born 1999) last night and he held his own. We been playing some of our 1998's as well, who have been doing very well." Master's play away to Woodbridge on June 7th, while Sanjaxx hosts Toronto F.C. Academy at Monarch Park on June 6.
