Kingston Clippers earned their first win of the 2015 League1 Ontario season, after downing Sanjaxx Lions 2-1 
at Queens University in Kingston on Sunday afternoon.

Sanjaxx opened the scoring in the second minute, courtesy of Frantz Bill, but Kingston’s Andrew Martin got 
one back in the 68th minute and Pat Vanderholst completed the comeback victory in the 88th.
 
Andrew Martin played a dynamic role in the attack and maintained consistent defensive responsibilities,” 
said Kingston head coach Christian Hoefler. “Andrew led our squad by example… netted the tying goal 
after a 1-0 setback… [and] then continued to show his leadership by taking on a full back role after 
having played a majority of the match as a forward.”

“Pat continues to shine with the Clippers,” added Hoefler, about Clippers’ second goalscorer. “Pat came 
on late in the second half and sparked our side as a continuous attacking threat to the opposition. 
Pat scored the game winning goal with a solid strike to the bottom right corner of the net.”

Sanjaxx head coach Laza Lowe expressed regret at the number of goalscoring chances his team missed, 
citing a lack of composure and maturity in his squad – issues that he said the Lions would be addressing 
on the training ground.

“They are a young and unproven group,” said Lowe, “so we approach everything with a positive state 
of mind, but they need to get better at finishing and scoring.”
 
Lowe pointed to players Lael Daniel and Shaqore Rouse as the standout performers in the Lions team, 
and highlighted the work of Kingston netminder, Max Materne, for the Clippers. Hoefler selected 
the Lions’ goalscorer Frantz Bill as his player of the match for Sanjaxx.

“[He] scored in the opening minute of the game and was an important piece to Sanjaxx's attack,” 
said Hoefler. “He had pace and technical ability that gave our defense a great battle.”

Hoefler praised his team’s resiliency in chasing the win throughout the ninety minutes.

“Once the second half whistle blew, the lads were not content with having allowed such an early 
goal in the first half,” said Hoefler. “You could feel the passion and desire to win every battle 
on the field. We took extra care in our decisions and the moment Andrew Martin scored the tying 
goal, you could sense a second was bound to come. Pat Vanderholst's goal sealed the deal and this 
allowed us to finalize the match in our favour."
