May 10, 2015 League 1 Ontario--Sanjaxx Lions vs Windsor Stars (from League 1 Ontario press release)
Sanjaxx Lions 1 - Windsor Stars 2 . Tue May 12 Written By: Staff, League1 Windsor Stars' veterans Stephen Ademolu and Gino Berardi made sure that League1's Southwestern Ontario representatives brought full points back home on Mother's Day, while Sanjaxx Lions Joel Anderson registered the lone strike for Sanjaxx. Ademolu's opener was the key moment for Windsor head coach Shane Topalovic. "I felt it gave the team a boost to move forward and attack more," he said. Much of the game was a stalemate, and unsurprisingly Sanjaxx head coach Laza Lowe selected defender Mohamed Diaby as his man of the match. "The turning point for us was certainly when our central defender went down to injury and had to be removed from the match," he added. "Windsor just kept good shape and the big challenge for us was to keep the ball away from the opponent and penetrate." Topalovic chose central player Ciprian Codea as the Stars MVP. "I felt he won most of the balls in the air and in the middle, controlled the midfield, and distributed the ball very well to his teammates tonight." The presence of Sanjaxx's big central forward Nordo Gooden continued to intimidate opponents, with Topalovic citing his strength and attacking threat as Windsor's biggest concern. "Our biggest challenge was finishing," said the Windsor manager. "We had some great opportunities and build-up, but just couldn't find the net. We'll go back to training and look to improve our attacks and play in the final third." Luckily for the Stars, veteran goalscorer Gino Berardi cropped up in the right place at the right time to put an eighty-seventh minute heartbreaker into the Sanjaxx net. "We have to continue to work positively as a group to get better at what we do," summarized Lowe, pragamatically. Newcomers to the league, the Lions are winless in three matches, while Windsor has also stuttered a bit to start this season, with only one win, and two losses in three matches. Next weekend both Sanjaxx and Windsor hit the road, with the Lions going to the tough confines of Tindall Field to face the Kingston Clippers, and the Stars heading to Sigma's home ground at Mississauga's Hershey Centre.
