Woodbridge Strikers midfielder Oscar Cordon is one reason the League 1 Ontario Soccer team 
is battling it out at the top of the table this season.

The twenty-one year-old was a key force in his team's last game scoring the first and final 
goals as the Strikers beat the Stars in Windsor, 3-1.

That puts Woodbridge in fourth place in a tight bunch with twenty-two points after eleven 
matches, just four behind front-runners Vaughan Azzurri, who have twenty-six points after 
twelve games played. Toronto FC Academy and Sigma FC each have twenty-four points, tied 
for second though TFC has played just ten matches to twelve for Sigma.

Windsor is six points back of Woodbridge in fifth with sixteen points after ten games played.

Cordon likes the upward trend the Strikers are on of late.

"When we started it was a bit rough, but we picked up and got quite a bit of points. 
The team has gelled and now we're fighting up top with the top four teams," he said 
this past Wednesday.

As for his own game, the former Toronto FC full professional, who played several games 
for the Major League Soccer Club on contract when he was an eighteen-year-old said his 
game is also on the upswing.

"I've been doing a bit better," said the North York resident.

"We had a little break, and the last couple of games I was nursing some injuries, but 
I got a little rest and it's getting better so I'm happy."

He feels not much separates the top four League 1 clubs and that it could be anybody's 
title at the end of the season.

"I would say there's not much of a difference... the games against them have been 
very equal. Whoever makes the least mistakes will win," said Cordon.

Last season, the talented midfielder played professionally in Guatemala, the country 
where his parents are from, after things failed to work out with TFC.

Of that TFC experience, which saw him play a game in the CONCACAF club championships 
for the MLS team at seventeen and sign a pro deal at eighteen, he said, "It was amazing. 
I have no regrets. It didn't end up how I wanted it to, but it was a good experience. 
I learned so much, not only about football but about life itself."

He said he wants to get back to playing full-time as a pro, so is trying to stay as fit 
as possible.

"My goal is to go on trial with a pro club. I mean that's my goal because I still have 
that passion in me."
