Attendance was about 125 on this mild evening. About that many people again were outside the gates as the end of a trophy presentation for a tourney that had just finished with some of those people eventually coming inside to see the second half of this game. This game was taped by Rogers Community Channel for broadcast tomorrow night (Monday 8:00pm) for those subscribers north of Toronto.

ANB Shiquan Lowe's late goal redeemed himself for costing the Penalty shot. The story is similar to what Toronto FC defender Nick Hagglund did after costing a goal in yesterday's MLS match against Portland Timbers (although he scored two goals). Also more eeringly similar to that game was at 93 minutes (not 12 seconds like Timbers Will Johnson) ANB Anthony Smith's leg was badly injured on a tackle and he had to be carried off the field on a stretcher. Strikers Davier Walcott earned a Yellow card on that challenge. There was at least a six minute delay before the resulting freekick was taken that tied the game.

Both teams had problems in the other team's end with frequent offside calls and missed passes and off-target shooting—the kind of play easily forgiven if the field was wet but tonight the conditions were perfect. Both teams' goalies were aggressive in not being afraid to come forward to clear a ball before it was a danger. The game wasn't particularly rough until players tired in the second half with referee Justin Tasev giving out six Yellow cards in the entire game that I counted—five to Strikers.

Best non-scoring chances were at 11 minutes when ANB Brandon Mills on the right rolled a centering cross and Jason Mills took a low shot from 18 yards past the goalie but blocked at 3 yards by a defender. The ball then was only partially cleared and Paticio Gonzalez chipped a shot from 22 yards that dipped and hit the top of the bar at the left post. At 67 minutes ANB Jason Mills fed the ball from 40 yards up the middle to the left for the charging Jahsua Mills who eluded the goalie at 10 yards and rescued the ball on the end line and covered by a defender passed back to his Jason who shot from 25 yards down the middle well wide right of the net. 84 minutes had a charging WS Oscar Cordon shoot a 6 yarder off the underside of the crossbar or the game would have been out of reach. At 88 minutes ANB Mansoor Afzaly passed to the left for Anthony Smith in the clear and his 20 yard shot spun over the sliding goalie at 15 yards and the retreating WS Jesse Andoh got back to head the ball down and clear at 2 yards. (Brandon, Jason, and Jahsua are brothers).

The result almost clinches the League Championship for Toronto FC Academy who have 32 points in 14 games while Woodbridge has 27 in 14 games of the 16 game season. Vaughan Azzurri also has 27 but they've played 15 games. It probably justs puts off the inevitable when the undefeated TFCA hosts the winless Cataraqui Clippers next weekend. TFCA hosted the Clippers on this past Saturday in a Cup match and won 11-0. TFCA have an storm ravished away game they never finished against Windsor Stars but it would be interesting to see if the league office makes them play or just move on to the Cup semi-finals. TFCA head coach Michael Stefano was in attendance taking in the action and talking with former Canadiaen international Paul Stateri who coaches his own kid(s) on a Woodbridge youth team(s). Stefano wasn't sure that the Windsor game would be rescheduled. I counted three games that have NOT been rescheduled on the league website.

ANB has two more games to improve on their four wins, four ties, six losses record. They are currently seventh in the nine team league but could easily move up with a win as Masters FA who are one point ahead of them have played out their schedule.
